the rose bowl refuses to break with tradition whenever possible, thats why they took Illinois. The Rose Bowl attempts to keep its Pac 10 and Big 10 participants whenever remotely feasible.

I'd argue that preventing a Vtech vs OU matchup was probably in the best interest of anyone remotely invested in college football.

Well, to be honest I wondered why the Rose Bowl, who gets the first option should the pac10 or big10 champs go to the big dance, didn't chose Georgia? Not to take anything away from the Illini but what would you rather see, Illinois or Georgia versus USC?

FWIW, the Director of the Rose Bowl was on Sports Radio a few weeks back and he gave four reasons as to the choice of Illinois:

1) The contractual agreement between the Rose Bowl, the Pac 10, and the Big 10.
2) The top 5 BCS teams were not eligible for the participation in the game.
3) The marketability of the #2 and #3 television markets in the US (and the agreement of the sponsors to support the choice).
4) Who would sell the most tickets to fill the Rose Bowl.

According to this Director, Illinois was an overwhelming favorite by the sponsors of the Rose Bowl.

Wait...what? Laying the biggest egg means who would lose by the most. So you say OU would lose by the most (or play the worst) but then the ACC (vtech) sucks worse than the Big XII (OU).

It seems contradictory to me...
