Then the BCS needs to relinquish control of team selection to the bowls.
Alternatively, the BCS could take full control of team selection to the bowls and eliminate conference tie-ins altogether. Then they could pit #1 vs #8, #2 vs #7 and so on. What they do from there...
Seriously though; unlike most people, my feelings on this issue are very luke-warm. We are dominant in our conference, for now. This makes it easier to get to the one-game-playoff that is the current system, for now. That is best for OSU, for now. So for now, let's just leave it alone.
Looking forward to the unforeseeable future (did I just invent an oxymoron?), I would like to see a playoff: reason being that the tradition of the old system has already been destroyed, so we might as well get what we would want if tradition weren't in play (aside from the very few people who defend the current system for other reasons).
Some would object on the basis of trying to get the tradition back: don't kid yourself, it's gone. Time marches on.
Some would object that there are more than "very few people" who argue against a playoff for reasons other than tradition. There are two possible reasons they might think so. 1) They might not be considering that many of the non-tradition-based arguments are being made by people who wouldn't bother if tradition weren't at the bottom of their objections, and 2) They are just delusional and don't realize how few in number they really are.
