Which teams are likely to make it to the BCS Championship Game in Glendale, AZ in January, 2011?

CFN

Considering the likely preseason rankings, the prestige of the various teams, the schedules, and the respect given to an unbeaten BCS team over an unbeaten Boise State or Mountain West champion, if all things are equal the 2010 national title pecking order it probably goes something like this:

1) Unbeaten SEC champion
2) Unbeaten Ohio State
3) [strike] Unbeaten USC [/strike]
4) Unbeaten Big 12 champion
5) Unbeaten non-Ohio State Big Ten champion
6) Unbeaten Pac 10 champion
7) Unbeaten ACC champion
8) One-loss SEC champion
9) Unbeaten Boise State
10) Unbeaten Big East champion
11) Unbeaten TCU, Utah or BYU
12) One-loss Ohio State.

Cont'd ...

You can expect an unbeaten Notre Dame to be on top of that list. I would say, however, quite a few one-loss scenarios could play out that bump unbeaten MWC champion and Boise State out. I'll believe they have a shot at a BCS championship game when I see it.

I'm hoping for an unbeaten Nebraska against an unbeaten Big-10 champion. IMHO It would be the perfect scenario for ushering in a new era for both Nebraska and the Big-10.

This is nice, but you're on a Buckeye board. You need to understand that Big 10 champ = The Ohio State University.

That would be pretty cool to see Ohio State vs. Nebraska in the championship game. I gotta say that I never really cared much for Nebraska - neither liked them nor disliked them. But I would LOVE to see them go undefeated this year, smoke through the Big 12, and stomp on someone for the Big 12 Championship Game. Sayonara Big 12, you poopy-pants!!

Ha - then in 2011, the Big Ten welcomes them by beating them 8 times.
(Ok - as long as they wait a year or two before they win the conference.)

CFN is probably being realistic here

Notre Dame being anywhere near the BCS Title Game :slappy:

Maybe unrealistic, but the point is it doesn't matter if they are good or bad; if they go undefeated, regardless of how many undefeated teams there are, they play for a national championship.

Discussion among 10 national writers about where a 1-loss SEC champion would fall in the BCS pecking order.

Feel free to copy in an individual quote and comment on it.

Discussion about who would face an undefeated tOSU in the title game: an undefeated Boise St team or a 1-loss SEC champion Florida.

CFN

These pick Florida: Fiutak, Cirminiello, Herbstreit

These pick Boise St: Zemek, Dodd, Feldman, Lundquist, Maisel

Waffled: Greenstein, Schad

Seeing Boise's road to the title game after they got past Va Tech, I'm imagining what it would be like to only have to beat Miami then run through the MAC to get to the title game. That would be the functional equivalent of their road for our Bucks, and the world would go apeshit over it. But in Boise's case, the blowhards are rooting for it.

We need a fucking playoff.

Welcome to FSU's world for many years in the ACC, (adding the UF game to make it two games to get up for instead of one)

I remember those days. I also remember the titles Miami "won" by winning bowl games in their home stadium. Neither of those schools ever had to run through a conference like the SEC, Big Ten, or Big XII to do it, with multiple hurdles in conference to go along with the one big OOC game. Amazingly, this concept is lost on most of the geniuses in media.

Meanwhile, Boise is now 7-7 versus BCS teams since 2002, 84-4 versus non-BCS schools. Even playing only 2 BCS schools a year - usually with several weeks to focus on them - the best they can manage is a .500 record.

What a joke.
