BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

I was definitely upset when the Buckeyes lost to Illinois at home while controlling their destiny. No way did I think that Ohio State would be in this position with only needing one team to lose to make it back to a national title game in a "rebuilding" year.

As much as I would definitely love to see this history in making, I have a feeling that Oklahoma vs Missouri for Big 12 Championship will be very tense and might actually come down to the wire. Hopefully, Oklahoma won't experience the same situation as Florida State did with Florida (won the game during the season, then got blew out in the national title game by the same team.)

I basically watched every game that Ohio State needed to help their cause. I watched Oregon/Arizona and saw Dixon tearing his ACL live. Same with Oklahoma and Sam Bradford against Texas Tech.

Then came around Arkansas to take out LSU in triple overtime, which I sat through the entire game in hoping that they can pull the upset.

I hope my luck does not run out with Oklahoma/Pittsburgh for this weekend. If they can manage to do it, OSU will have a shot at redemption, which would be absolutely a great thing to have to turn this thing around.

Lastly, I would like to say...

BOOMER SOONER!

That article is a joke. Schlabach is a complete idiot.

He says last years' OSU team was better. Yeah, maybe on offense. What seems to be lost upon most of the idiots that do not know anything about Ohio State football is that we had, what, 9 new starters on defense last year? We are way stronger on D this year. He makes WVU out to sound like they are road-runners with pads on. Uh, they just beat Cincinnati by 5 whole points before drubbing an overrated and horrendously shitty UConn team. It's just a typical blow-job by half-assed ESPiN "journalists".

that horribly shitty UCONN team also had a running back at the half who had 108 yards on 12 carries in the first half....that score reflects a dipshit coach hell-bent on throwing the ball instead of smashing WV on the ground.

Trust me, Pitt wiill make it a game on Saturday w/ LeSean McCoy. Call me crazy, but it's going to be close.

Don't count on it. Dave Wannstedt can out-dipshit just about anybody you can think of, Randy Edsall included.

I would like to have seen West Va. play Pitt at Heinz Field last night.

HtM has made it clear, every time he's posted it, that his "projections" are not actually "projections" but are the match-ups that would be provided by a purely hypothetical alternative system. He says they are "just for fun". His other posts indicate that he is completely familiar with the rules that are actually in place.

Sorry must have misunderstood his post then.

I wouldn't be so quick to draw that conclusion. Statistically, the best pass defense Hawaii's faced all season is (2-10) UNLV's.

Yardage-wise, that's true. UNLV is ranked 20th in the nation in Pass Defense and Differential Pass Defense (after games against lower division teams are factored out).

But a much more effective measure of a team's pass defense (and one with a MUCH higher correlation to winning percentage) is Pass Efficiency Defense. Going by Differential Pass Efficiency (how far you hold other teams below their usual pass efficiency number), Boise State has the best pass defense faced by the Rainbow Warriors all year. The Broncos are ranked 29th in the nation in Differential Pass Efficiency. Three other teams played by Hawaii clock in at just barely above average in DPE. Everyone else they played is dreadful.

That having been said: Hawaii could put points on the board against anyone. They have a very effective system and one of the most accurate passers that I've ever seen throwing to some legitimately athletic receivers.

And to actually address the point - Tennessee is ranked 73rd in the nation in DPE. Colt Brennan would flat out fuck them up.

"We need to have a "Hoosiers" type of ending to the season. There's a reason it's in the top three of almost everybody's favorite sports movies. We need to see the upset ? we need to see the little guy win it all once in a while. A Tiger/Mountaineer matchup would guarantee that.
Now, in a year when nothing is automatic, Missouri still has to beat Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship and WVU has to knock off Pittsburgh in the Backyard Brawl. That is not a guarantee even in the typical season, but let's hope that it happens.
We don't need to see the same old same old in the championship game this year. I have no desire to see Ohio State get back in the game. We saw them play in it last year and we'll probably see them play in it next year. They have the best players, the best facilities and the best tradition. But they lost to Illinois in the next-to-last game of the season and didn't really earn the right"
Oh wow. Comments?

I would love to know how Terry thinks OSU does not deserve it because they lost to ILL in the next to last game but WVU does deserve it even though they lost to an overrated USF team and Mizzou lost to OK early in the year.

So what is he saying, teams that lose early deserve it more than teams that lose late? Oh that makes perfect sense.

That is one of the glaring flaws with "the regular season is a playoff" view. People place more importance on the games that take place toward the end of the year than they do at the beginning. These guys practice for months prior to the season--I know it isn't quite the same but they should be expected to get out their and play their butts off all season long. A loss is a loss. At best, that is false logic. If anything, opponents will be trying to knock off big guys at the end of the season more readily than the beginning--thus making the losses more understandable.

I think we open with those guys next year, but I have to check.
