jlb1705, thanks for your explanation that ESPN has exclusive rights to the Rose Bowl, so I wouldn't have to be puzzled and ponder as to why hosts talk like that.

Btw, if I remmy right, we have no win against SEC team in any bowl or just one win. We lost several times to them. Something like 6 loses.

It would be nice to play WVA, since it's our neighbor state and have Josh Jenkins watch our games. He probably would pick the winner.

There wasn't anywhere near as much discussion of conference supremacy in general back in the mid-90s. Gatorubet, I'd like to hear your opinion on this, but I attribute most of this ridiculous "which conference is tougher" discussion to SEC fans, and I think their obsession with the argument arises primarily from Auburn's going undefeated a few years back but still getting shafted out of the NC game. It seems that SEC fans have an agenda of pumping up their teams so that such a result never occurs again. Now, why SEC fans seem to direct so much of their angst toward the Big Ten (especially considering UF made it in the NC game last year ahead of scUM), while ignoring the weakness in other conferences such as the Big East or ACC, evidenced by the fact that WVU's strength of schedule is nearly identical to that of OSU's, yet you hear much more complaining about OSU than you ever hear about WVU, is beyond me.

I think you are right about a general sense of outrage when a really good Auburn team went undefeated and got left out. And this was rekindled when the Gators where fighting the ESPiN machine for the second spot in Phoenix. We heard endlessly why Michigan was the second best team from Herbie and Brent, who wanted the ABC affiliated schools over the CBS affiliated SEC schools, who had Danielson pimping as hard for us as Herbie was for Michigan.

I hadn't thought so much about it, but you are right, it has been a more recent thing. As far as Gators go, the Michigan versus UF battle for the right to play y'all was something that absolutely did raise emotions to a higher pitch, especially when Urban started campaigning and Carr started bitching about that and - you know - every fan base has a boat load of idiots who cannot keep perspective on an issue.

As much as I dislike your average SEC type, I was in total agreement that Auburn should have shared a NC with USC in '04.

That was total bullshit but made even worse by the fact just one year earlier when the media didn't like what the BCS had to say(LSU vs OU) they threw a hissy, took their toys, went home and named USC the AP champ.

Turn the page to '04 and they want to do everything by the book and use the BCS as an excuse to exclude Auburn so USC could get a whole NC. No talk of a split NC when the BCS makes their darlings from USC the champ, only when it worked against them.

Made me sick then and still burns my ass now.

That article is a joke. Schlabach is a complete idiot.

He says last years' OSU team was better. Yeah, maybe on offense. What seems to be lost upon most of the idiots that do not know anything about Ohio State football is that we had, what, 9 new starters on defense last year? We are way stronger on D this year. He makes WVU out to sound like they are road-runners with pads on. Uh, they just beat Cincinnati by 5 whole points before drubbing an overrated and horrendously shitty UConn team. It's just a typical blow-job by half-assed ESPiN "journalists".

There is a lot in that article that made me stop and wonder if he even knows anything about tOSU Football. I never really read any of his articles in the past but after seeing this one, I'm not going to be looking at anything he writes soon. His obvious and blantant attempt to swing from WVU's nuts without actually backing up his article at all pissed me off a little and I needed to vent.

"We need to have a "Hoosiers" type of ending to the season. There's a reason it's in the top three of almost everybody's favorite sports movies. We need to see the upset ? we need to see the little guy win it all once in a while. A Tiger/Mountaineer matchup would guarantee that.
Now, in a year when nothing is automatic, Missouri still has to beat Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship and WVU has to knock off Pittsburgh in the Backyard Brawl. That is not a guarantee even in the typical season, but let's hope that it happens.
We don't need to see the same old same old in the championship game this year. I have no desire to see Ohio State get back in the game. We saw them play in it last year and we'll probably see them play in it next year. They have the best players, the best facilities and the best tradition. But they lost to Illinois in the next-to-last game of the season and didn't really earn the right"
Oh wow. Comments?

Wonder if Terry felt the same way when we all had to stomach his dad going to the BCS championship three years in row, two of which they had no business being there (i.e. 1998 and 2000). And oh golly, FSU hasn't even come close since the ACC added just a little bit of competitiveness.
