BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

in 2001, Nebraska didn't even make the big 12 title game, and went to the national title game. 2003, Oklahoma gets schooled by K State in the Big 12 title game, and still went to the national title game even though USC was ranked #1 in both the coaches and ap poll.

After that 2003 mess they made the computer polls less meaningful, so something like that most likely couldint happen again

Nebraska got blown out by Miami and LSU solidly beat OU.

Don't forget though that Michigan almost made it back to the NC game over Florida had it not been for the intervention of a few coaches.

That being said, as Jaxbuck stated numerous times, both Kansas and Missouri would tumble if either one loses a game. Missouri would have two losses and Kansas is a basketball school. Nobody is going to shed tears for Kansas when they drop like a rock in the polls.

There was an outside chance that we get leaped by ASU if they played well against SC. That chance is gone.

I've got a feeling we'll be seeing Kansas and WVU in the championship game. I know we only need one of those teams to lose, but they hold their own destiny's in their hands. Kansas hasnt played many teams with quality but they have the best defense in the Big12. Missouri is one of the hottest teams in the country right now and they have an absurd amount of weapons on offense. The Big12 game tomorrow I feel is the championship game. The Texas Tech game showed me the Sooners have fallen hard from the beginning of the season. Will Bradford be able to go in the Championship game for OU? Thats the biggest question mark.

WVU is finally healthy I think, even though Pat White is fragile. They have Slaton and Devine who can rip it off fromt the backfield. The defense blows but the offense makes up for it.

Ohio State lost to Illinois in a bad game. Our own fault and I think we will end up just short of the NC game because of it.

tOSU needed 5 teams to lose over the last couple weeks of the season; at least 4 of them will have lost by the time the BCS standings come out on Sunday, and now you're getting pessimistic?

BOOMER SOONER!

If UConn wins tomorrow, I agree, the Buckeyes should be in. What's also interesting is that if the Big12 south then wins that championship game, Georgia could end up #2 if KY beats TN, and they beat Tech and win the SEC. Although, this would have been more likely if LSU had won today. Would be great to see the Buckeyes back in the NC game, but a shot at redemption against the heralded SEC would be sweet icing on the cake.

It takes a (Houston) Nutt to help a Buckeye!!!

I'm so jazzed about watching college football tommorow!!! Do the Sooners rest any of their players since tommorow's game is meaningless? C'mon UCONN lets gooooooooo (Chris Berman voice)!!!!

I'm not talking about the 2001 system or the 2003 system. I'm talking about the 2007 system that's been tweaked because of those ridiculous scenarios. Just look at last year as proof... Michigan thinks they got jobbed but in hindsight the BCS got it right (if we had shown up).

Appalachian State > Michigan
Syracuse > Louisville
Stanford > USC
Colorado > OU
USF > West Virginia
Oregon State > Cal
Kansas State > Texas
Illinios > Wisconsin
Kentucky > LSU
Rutgers > USF
FSU > BC
Illinios > Ohio State
Arizona > Oregon
Texas Tech > OU
Arkansas > LSU

This year, anything and everything is possible. How many of these could or did anybody call? The safest place to be right now is finished with an 11-1 record, and just let everyone in front of us fall on their face. Everyone has done a pretty good job of it so far.

Oklahoma and UCONN, getting the Buckeye Nation behind them this week. Will it be enough?

OU has already beaten Mizzou this year. Who the hell knows about Kansas but I'm still pretty skeptical.

The WVU games are the ones I don't see happening. Uconn and Pitt are a joke. Unless White or Slayton get hurt I don't see any way they lose.

All in all, almost every single game we have needed to go our way since we beat tsun has happened. Needing OU to win the B12 north isn't even really an upset imo. They might be the lower ranked team but they'll probably be favored by vegas.

Of all the crazy stuff we needed to happen OU is about the easiest one of them all. If it doesn't happen it doesn't happen but you can't ask for any better chance when you don't control your own destiny than this one.

Also don't forget, after todays games the pollsters have to start looking at the beauty contest between 3 teams. I still say remember UF last year. When the pollsters have to make a final decision about what NC game they want, they will move people. CFB is a tradition bound sport, I don't think the human elements are ready for a Kansas-WVU game, I just don't.

Thinking like a pollster: If I'm in the East I'm thinking, can't we get Notre Dame in a bowl game if they win two games, and hoping U Conn can get by West Virginia...

If I'm in the South I'm thinking of splitting the SEC in half and incorporating the ACC into the two so they can find some teams that won't upset the big dogs.

If I'm on the West Coast I'm pulling for WVU to come through so we get OSU right where we want them, in the Rose Bowl against a home town team.

If I'm in cow and oil country I'm hoping Kansas beats Mizzou and then cancel the conference championship game because of the threat of tornados.

If I'm in the Midwest... wait, I'm in the Midwest... and I'm thinking I want Jon David Botty and the Trojans in Soldier Field on January 1 thru 7 for the real NC game.

Let's face it, should USC win out with a stomping of ASU and UCLA their two losses will be forgiven by the So Cal press, the first or second biggest media market in the country and the only one of the two with a real college football conference in its midst. They will fight hard to keep the Buckeyes right where they need them... in the Rose Bowl.

Should Kansas beat Mizzou and then get flattened by Oklahoma in the playoff and WVU get by U Conn, there's nobody but a one or two loss team to put in the BCS Bowl.

If LSU should come back and blow the doors off of Tennessee... no I don't see Kentucky winning this game... It will be hard to keep LSU out of the NC game. Best team in the best conference...

Or the BCS becomes a 1 loss WVU vs 1 loss Kansas NC game in which case there will be a lot of eyes on the Rose Bowl as "The Real NC Game."

If the Bucks can beat the Trojans in Pasedeana they can earn a non-BCS Bowl BCS championship to go along with USC's.

And the screams for playoffs will be louder than ever. The current BCS system needs Kansas to win out.

and I would scream back, "what in the hell do you think you've been watching the past 12 weeks?"

There is no playoff system in place that I'm aware of that has an absolutely even path to a championship for everyone involved. There is always a tougher bracket, a tougher conference or just a bad draw. ALWAYS.

SEC is a tougher road than the B10? Yes it is, but it hasn't always been and it won't always be. 1998 the roles were reversed and a 1 loss OSU team didn't get a shot at an undefeated UT team that almost everyone felt we were better than.

Any team in a BCS conference that can run the table is virtually assured of a NC shot. They playoffs start at week 1, 1 loss does not eliminate you but 2 does. Too easy a schedule will penalize you in the eyes of the pollsters so thats a slippery slope to try and beat the system with. The only thing we(CFB) are currently lacking is a good seeding system and a fair site selection for the championship game.

So guess who Herbie mentions as a BCS Title Game sleeper today?

None other than USC. They are in the "knock 'em off" position that tOSU was in about 10 days ago. But if West Va. loses, if Georgia loses, if Va. Tech loses, if Oregon loses, and if Oklahoma loses to Okie State, guess who gets the love as the highest rated 2-loss team?

It's a beauty contest between USC and just-left-for-dead LSU. :wink2:

And I actually think LSU will only drop to about #5 tomorrow, behind the Kan/Mo winner, West Virginia (if they beat UConn), tOSU, and Georgia. And that USC will only be around 8th.
