Is there another reason for doing this other than revenue?

They want to avoid the embarrassment of not having 10 eligible teams for the 5 bowls on Dec. 2, since so many Big-12, SEC, and Pac-10 teams may end up in the top-14.

If you take the current top-14, and then move Tennessee above BC at #14 (likely if they beat LSU in the SEC CCG), there would be 4 SEC, 4 Big 12, and 3 Pac-10 teams in the top 14. Only 6 of them can go because of the 2-per-conference limit, but there would only be 3 teams eligible from the Big 10, ACC, and Big East (tOSU, W, Va, Va Tech).

West Virginia and the Big East is a fucking Joke. They're going to get their ass handed to them in a Big Bowl game, just as they did when Major Somthing or other took them to #1 considerations a few years back. Why the polls don't correct for the weakness of the Big East is beyond me.

Actually they did beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl (in Atlanta) two years ago.

If WVU got in the NC over Ohio State, I would quit watching college football untill they start a playoff system..They lost to a team that fell off the map quickly..Where is USF anymore? Never heard of them. While Ohio State lost to a very competitve team in Illinois with a lot of great athletes and a QB who has a chance to win the Heisman next year..

I also think though that LSU just might lose to Georgia in the SEC Championship game if this were to happen it would be West Virginia vs Ohio State in the BCS National Championship game. I would love for this to happen because I am so sick of people saying the Big East is better than the Big Ten especially my friends

The BigTen Network was all over Illinois going to the Rose Bowl if Ohio State sneaks into the BCSNC game. Would be an interesting match up to see them play Oregon or USC. Many bowl projections currently have Illinois going to the Outback bowl and playing Florida.

I can actually see both uConn and Pitt beating WVU. They're basically a two trick pony (Slaton and White) with just a few other options. As long as they can get enough pressure on both of them in the backfield, I think WVU is out.

Per ESPN news, the BCS changed their rules today, to allow teams from BCS conferences to get at-large bds if they are ranked in the top 18. The previous rule had been top-14.

This was done in order to get a 4th BCS conference a second bid.

The Pac-10, the SEC, and the Big 12 will each get 2 teams (no conference is allowed 3 bids). The ACC champ, the Big East Champ, and tOSU make 9 teams. If the Hawaii/Boise St. winner doesn't end up in the top-12, the BCS needs to be able to take another BCS conference team: it could be Illinois, the ACC loser, or a second team from the Big East. The chances of Illinois getting a BCS bid aren't bad.

The rule change only goes into effect if there are not enough eligible teams in the top 14.

Look, I am not saying that WVU won't lose one of their remaining games and I'm not saying that LSU will lose one of their remaining games.

If I had to bet my next paycheck on who I thought was MORE LIKELY to lose one of there remaining games, there is no doubt in my mind, that my money would be a hell of alot safer betting on LSU to drop one. Yeah, it's not as if Slaton and White haven't had any previous experience as being "go-to-guys" for WVU and having other teams trying to key on them and stop them week in and week out over the course of their entire college careers.
