I wouldn't be so sure of that if I were you.

Usually people provide reasons as to why they disagree. But I'll get the ball rolling as we seem to be treading water until this weekend for things to fall into place. Two reasons I can't see Az St passes us, thus their relative unimportance in the OSU getting into the NC scenerio. First, they already are ranked #4 in the computers, and are ahead of us (we are #6). If anyone loses ahead of them, both of us will advance, and so they won't gain anything. If Missouri loses, we would actually increase are current separation.

Second, we are ranked ahead of them in the human polls. It is very rare for the pollster to jump teams unless someone give them a reason. When we beat UM, the only response by Az St would be to beat USC. I don't see that being sufficient for the humans to jump us. Az St's last game is against Az, certainly not grounds for them jumping us.

So perhaps you could explain your hesitation regarding our safety in relation to Az St?

could we possibly move up a spot or two on the polls if we beat michigan and the teams a head of us dont lose this week??
Doubtful. Possible, sure... but unlikely. It would take a molliwhoppin and a poor performance from... say WVU.

Edit: And asking your question in one thread is sufficient.

Face it... it's over. You will crush Michigan no problem, but we will see you in the Capital One Bowl and give you a chance to avenge your lopsided losses in basketball and football.

Nuff respect, but better luck next year!

Uh, an 11-1 team ranked in the top 5 (which we'll be after all the carnage the two weeks after our last game) does not go to the Capital One bowl, dipshit. Now, a team with 3-losses might...good luck against powerhouse Florida Atlantic.

For starters, the ASU/USC game is not this week, but next week. Thus, they get the last shot to impress the voters. USC could well be a top 10 team by that point.

For Ohio State to get into position for the NC is going to require a lot of shakeup. Shakeup of that magnitude tends to cause some voters to abandon the basic slotting system and truly reevaluate things (especially at the end of the season).

ASU has better talking points than OSU. ASU's loss was on the road to a possibly top-5 Oregon team. ASU's would likely have a signature win better than anything OSU would have. The Pac10 is widely viewed as a better conference than the Big10.

For the last poll, voters don't generally go by the slotting system for the top two spots. Many ask themselves who the top 2 teams are. Thus, ASU has a legitimate shot at passing OSU.

I think all of us are right there with you. We gotta take care of our business and then after that let's hope the whole college world starts crumbling with upsets.

I know there is a lot of football left, but the chances of OSU finding a slot in the NC at this point are slim to none. A win over Michigan, a trip to the Rose against the Pac 10's 2nd best (most likely the Trojans), will be a great finish to the season. Possibly 11-1 after all the ?'s this team had coming into the season. It's easy to look at the negatives of this loss (believe me, I've rehashed it 100 times already), but Tress and the gang have had a great year. The expectation bar is set so high at tOSU. Sure we would love to be playing in the NC again but when has playing in the "grand-daddy of them all" become a bad bowl? They need to take care of business against scUM, prove this "team speed" shit is a joke @ the the Rose, and a preseason top5 ranking is likely next year with a trip to SoCal on tap. Scenario sounds good in my head, any thoughts?

Ah, missed the off-Saturday in the schedule. Of course, USC could beat Az St, so that wouldn't impress anyone. But I think most voters might be inclined to see a victory by the Buckeyes in what is widely recognized as the biggest rivalry in college football, on the road, and coming off a tough loss, as roughly the equivalent of a win by Az St over USC.

Wasn't aware of the fact that voters actually started to think in the last polls. Could you provide some examples? Not saying it doesn't exist, but I just can't think of any instances.

I don't know that anyone posting on here regarding the possibility for a spot in the NC game is saying that the Rose Bowl would be a "bad bowl". When we beat Michigan again, no matter the outcome, it has been a great year. Would just prefer to have a shot at it all. But if the Rose Bowl is going to be it, I am still happy.

GO BUCKS!
