BCS pairings. figure this out

Utah killed texas a+m this year, the same team that took overrated oklahoma to the wire.

i will bet all of my vcash that usc beats oklahoma. the pac-10 isn't a great conference, but it is the most underrated. whereas the big xii might be the most overrated conference in my lifetime, oklahoma the most overrated team in my lifetime, and jason white the most overrated heisman winner in my lifetime. plus bob stoops is an arrogant dickhead.

Auburn got screwed. The only difference between 2004 auburn and 2002 ohio state is that in '02, texas am and okie st upset oklahoma. this year, they came close but couldn't do it.

There were many close calls in that amazing '02 season. But a+m beating oklahoma, iowa st beating iowa and florida upsetting georgia were ENORMOUS. We should be so thankful that everything fell into place that season. Additionally, the fsu kicker missing wide left was a great thing for us. if miami would have had a loss, there would have been a big controversy as to who deserved to be in the fiesta, so that even after we won, other team would've grumbled that they would have beat us if they had gotten the chance (like the way we feel that tennessee was lucky to play fsu and not us in '98).

It all fell into place, as it was only 2 undefeated teams, and we were going up against the mighty Miami Hurricanes. I hope that USC kills OU, goes undefeated next year and rolls into the Rose Bowl on top of the world, ready to do battle with the resurgent Ohio State Buckeyes. That would be one of the most hyped-up games in history.

My thoughts

I agree that Cal was screwed. It's not that I think that Texas should be left out, because they shouldn't. I see Cal and Texas as being pretty even...but Cal took #1 USC to the wire, and Texas was dominated by #2 Oklahoma (believe it or not, OK v. USC will be a close game). In my book that makes Cal a better team, but in the usual idiot's view of voting, Cal didn't look great yesterday, so they must be worse than the team that didn't even play.

I also feel sorry for Utah, because they are in a no-win situation. They had a chance to represent the mid-major programs, but now they are playing a mid-major themselves. If they win, people will say it was "only Pittsburgh", and if they lose they will say they didn't belong in the BCS in the first place.

When there is a Pac-10 team as good as Cal, and they don't get to go to the Rose Bowl because a team from the Big-12 has the same record then something is wrong with the system. Texas should be in the Cotton Bowl and Cal in the Rose Bowl. That's screws over everybody the least. Now Cal is in the Holiday Bowl which is not even close to where they should be. I think Cal would likely beat anybody in the country in a bowl game. They should pull a Notre Dame and decline the bowl bid. It's just sad that somehow Texas jumps Cal when Cal wins and Texas doesn't play. And even more, Cal could have run up the score at the end, but took a knee instead. That's class. Texas is going to kick the crap out of scUM. Texas will get what's going to them next year in Columbus though.

The only game that they got right was the Orange. I would have loved to see Auburn v. either Texas or Cal, would've been a great game. Texas v. scUM should be a decent game. Who the fuck would've picked Va. Tech to win the "mighty" ACC? Now we get to see Auburn walk through their bowl game, if they stop whining long enough to get ready for it.

Could somebody please explain to me why any of these teams are good? I'll buy Auburn, because they won the SEC outright, and without a loss. But Oklahomo? They played Texas. Who else? Who did Texas play? Or what about USC? Cal? Because these teams played each other, they're supposed to be good? Please. Be it Choklahomo, USC, Texas, Cal, I firmly believe that none of them could have gone through the SEC unscathed. Auburn is getting shafted here, much more so than any other team.

The BCS imploded this season and everyone knows it. Five undefeated teams and only two have a shot at the MNC. Let the spin begin, you will be hearing quite a few views on this one for the next month or longer.


Can anyone actually justify Auburn not being in the Orange Bowl? I'm not saying they would beat either USC or OU, but they definitely deserve the shot.

Automatic conference birth is determined only if 2 teams in conference is in the BCS top 25 or if the highest ranked team is in the top 15 for conferences not in the the Big6. Only the ranked teams are eligible for non-BCS conferences. Big6 conferences get auto-bid unless no team is in the top 25.
No conference will have more than 3 teams in the playoff

seeding is based on BCS standings, not whether you win a conference. However, only non-BCS conferences that finish in the top 6, will get a top 6 seed. All other entries will have the lowest seeds.

in 2004, All 6 BCS conference champs are in. Along with the MWC, ConfUSA, and WAC champs (all three in top 15). 7 other at large teams will be taken.

I don't understand why so many people are calling for a 16 team playoff. We have never thought that any more tahn 3 teams have a shot at the title game.

If a playoff is feasible, why not just ahve a 4-team playoff. The argument would be whether Cal or Texas should fill in the 4th spot. Either way, both would probably lose to USC and the argument would be moot.

This year's BCS had one aspect that's good for college football. Auburn played non-conference opponents The Citadel, La. Tech, and La-Monroe. Their non-conf schedule kept them from getting into the BCS top-2 spots. If teams learn from this and schedule better opponents, that's good for college football. But I don't really think many scheduling changes will happen.

How did Texas jump Cal? There were 2 reasons.

Cal had Arrington running free to the end zone when they had a 10 point lead with a couple of minutes left. A lineman needlessly dove in front of a guy who was at about the 25 yard line, 5 yards behind Arrington, who was not going to be touched. A ref called clipping, although the blocker got his head in front of the man he took down. Cal wins 26-16, instead of 33-16.

Mack Brown spends the bye week calling his fellow coaches and lobbying writers that vote in the AP poll.

About 30 voters combined lower Cal in the AP and Coaches polls. The computers didn't move Cal or Texas.

Pathetic that Mack Brown's whining worked. Tedford showed class after Cal got screwed. And Cal really got screwed by the automatic Big East bid, not by Texas and Utah, who are both deserving teams.

I don't think it was just Auburn's OOC schedule that kept them out of the Orange Bowl. I think what really did them in was being ranked lower than the other two schools in the preseason polls. Now granted, if their preseason schedule would have included three teams like Miami, Florida State, and Ohio State, then that probably would have been enough to get them in the Orange Bowl if they had won those games, but if their schedule would have included three teams like Bowling Green, Houston, and Oregon, like Oklahoma, i'm pretty sure they still would be #3. According to the the computers, those three teams aren't any worse than La-Tech, La-Monroe, and Miss State. And really, the computers are the only ones who look at OOC schedule, unless there are huge differences, because all the pollsters seem to remember are your last games. And if strength of opponent really mattered to these people, then beating a ranked Tennessee would have impressed the more than beating a crappy Colorado. The Big-12 North is so bad.
