Watching the (future) enemy OSU coaches guests of LSU

By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS - Bowl games bring unfamiliar opponents, teams that are not normally on the schedule, or from the same part of the country. Once the pairings are revealed, research precedes the preparation. You have to know your foe before you can game-plan for them. But as top-ranked Ohio State readies for its Jan. 7 game with No. 2 Louisiana State University, the groundwork will go a little differently. They have not only been behind enemy lines, they've been in the camp. They've seen the LSU Tigers in their lair. Not just an Ohio State coach or two, but coach Jim Tressel's entire offensive and defensive staffs. Early this spring, before the Buckeyes started their spring practice here in the chilly Midwest, the Ohio State brain trust flew to Louisiana and was the guest of LSU coach Les Miles as his team went through spring workouts in a warmer clime.

Herbie said the PSU fans this year were not even close to the roar at the LSU game he attended a few weeks prior (not sure which game). He said death valley was much louder then happy valley

Thing is we silenced them quickly. You can guarantee we'd have worse had we not gone up 17-7 by halftime.

According to a study conducted by the University of Central Florida, OSU football players have a 53 percent graduation rate whereas LSU football players have a graduation rate of only 51 percent.

OSU students on the oval Tuesday were not surprised that the Buckeyes fared a bit better in the classroom than the LSU Tigers.
"It's much harder to get into OSU than LSU," Brent Hawk, an OSU student, said. "We hold ourselves to a higher academic standard."

What would that come out to? Y'all graduating one more guy every 2 years? lol

I would expect Navy to be up there, but Boston College is really impressive at 93%. That would equate to one recruit a class not graduating, correct? Or, am I figuring wrong?

I wonder what the percentages would be if you removed the guys who left for the league early. That has got to affect LSU and OSU more than BC, and part of the reason why they are so high.

I agree, it amazes me how many boards refuse to associate with outsiders, no matter how civil they are. I am glad this board has not taken such a stance, and so far, it has been more of a feeling out proccess than anything, but i see a lot of good, friendly debate in the future between the two sides. I think the boards that are closed to outsiders miss out on a lot of good debate, and it says a little about their fan base as well.

The past few years we've played a lot of great teams who bring great fans. They still stick around long after the game has been played, and it's great to hear their opinions, and in general, how life is in their part of the globe. Heck, we even have a mod that's a USC fan, which goes to show all visitors can aspire to greatness.

Runner-up U. That's what Steve Spurrier called Ohio State before the football season started...

Tressel is the anti-Spurrier in ever way, shape, and form imaginable. Except, you know, the winning games part... Tressel's pretty good at that.

Buckeye Planet is the best fan forum I've ever seen...period. :)

But when I look over at the rep of a guy like Gator and see that he's "Tresselesque"...well that's just more than a little strange.

I think that this board attracts people who are football fans as well as Buckeye Fanatics. When you go to places such as message boards on Sport Sites you get fanatics who don't know anything about the game and their most intelligent football insight is (Enter Opponent Here) Sucks. When we went 8-4 and lost at Northwestern in 2004 how many of those "Buckeye Fans" were paying any attention to the team? I'm sure for the LSU fans you have seen the same thing from fellow so called fans. I love my Buckeyes and I love college football just like all of the other posters on this site (those who don't have been long kicked off by our mods). I searched out this site a little over a year ago because I couldn't handle the "Superfans" prowling the message boards everywhere else. To all the opposing fans welcome and I hope you stick around after January 7th win or lose. From what I have seen you are our kind of people.

That's entirely possible.... but an Ivy League education or something the equivalent thereof does not win football games.

I'm sure that each of our respective universities have things going for themselves, but seriously, isn't this stretching just a little bit?

In other news,

I'd like to know how well all y'all travel? What was OSU's fan percentage in last years game and how well do you expect people will travel for this years?
Will those who don't get tickets go down to New Orleans anyway?

Here's what we do in our own stadium:

Here's us doing it at Indiana:

Here's us doing it at Northwestern (The best one because they try to use their cat to quiet us)
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQJ7b6vR3fs]YouTube - Stadium O-H-I-O at 2006 Northwestern game[/ame]
Here's us doing it at the Largest Stadium in the US.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, there will be a minimum of 100,000 OSU fans in NOLA. How many will be in the stadium, I can't say.

I'm just making my own statement here, but I beleive, besides Notre Dame, we have the largest fan base out of any other school

I wil just go party around the stadium and harass the LSU fans coming out after we win.

1 )The NOPD has a reputation that goes like this: "You can beat the charge, but you can't beat the trip..."

Put another way, they aren't too concerned whether they can get a conviction, but you are gonna spend a day or two in jail.

2) The NOPD are Tiger fans.

Tickets

Just a reminder to those of you that may be coming down without tickets. Ticket scalping is illegal here, if you buy a ticket on the street be careful of who you buy it from, they probably won't broadcast the game in the New Orleans jail. :-) Beware of counterfiet tickets, there are not only a lot of them out there, but they are very well done. It is almost impossible to detect them. We have even been having them show up at LSU games this year. Also, the New Orleans police are not to be messed with. They are very tolerant of people having a little too much to drink and doing some heavy partying (They have lots of experience with it) but if you cross the line there is no mercy.
