You're right, you could even add penalties to that list. Roughing the Punter was HUGE.

I was only speaking in terms of the stats that were in his post. You read that and you assume that OSU had a better offensive performance than LSU did. I don't think even the most bias OSU fan would believe that after watching the game. I don't think they did poorly, but I also believe the Tigers executed the better offensive gameplan last night.

Agreed.

OSU's offense was more big play/ hit miss, while LSU didn't get the huge offensive plays in terms of yardage, they were incredibly consistent. Other stats that tell the story are the 3rd down stats.

I agree. I'm really surprised at how many articles I've seen today that have said the game was a blowout--they're written as if the game were 30-0 at halftime and ended up 52-10. I'm sorry, but if a team is down 14 and has the ball at its opponent's 30 yard line with about 10 minutes to go, that game is far from over and is far from a blowout.

I'm not talking about a full on no huddle, just instead of calmly huddling, and using most of the play clock before each snap. I commented to my dad at that time that I felt they were doing us a favor by milking as much of the clock as they did.

I (and many others) said the exact same thing, only with far more curse words and probably at a much higher decibel level.

Agreed. I believe LSU was something like 11-18, 61%, while OSU was 3-13, 23%(those #'s may be wrong, I didn't look them up). Thats another HUGE stat. Tough to get control of the momentum when your defense is having a hard time getting off the field.

I think the BCS actually has hurt us, i know we get to play in the top bowl games each year, but we are never prepared for them, and i dont think its entirely game planning to blame.

Wrong - the team wasn't prepared against Florida, the team didn't execute, exhibit discipline or consistency against LSU, but those are the last two BCS games in which the Buckeyes have played.

In each of the other three BCS games in which Tressel has coached a Buckeye football team they have been well prepared, (all of them) efficient, gritty or capable (2002 NC, 2003 Fiesta, 2005 Fiesta) and flashy (Fiesta vs. ND).

After reading a few posts here, and many other places, Ive decided well that's it, fuck it. I'm never rooting for this team again. I mean they lost a title game. Again. To hell with the work it took to get there, and all the teams and rivals we've whupped on the last 7 years, or having players we can be pruod of having. It will be 25 years until we even win 8 games again, let alone get back in the "title picture", we have no talent, no speed, no coaching prowess, no recruiting, no nothing. Until we get a coach who runs the spread option and can recruit exclusively in Florida, fuck until we have an AD who will RELOCATE Ohio State to Florida we are 15 years behind the times. USC will beat us by 400 next year with their 3rd team punter playing defensive tackle. It's amazing we don't just drop football and stop fielding a team, or else join the conference with Mount Union and Baldwin-Wallace.

Jesus Christ you'd think we finished 1-11 for the 10th year in a row to hear some people talk. We had a few turnovers and stupid penalties, otherwise we stood toe to toe with the best team in the country. We beat Michigan. Again. Amazing how that has now become an afterthought in some of the very eyes of people who whined we could never beat them before. This was a great season. This was a great team. This was one of the better seasons OSU has had in their history. We've said that a lot the past 7 years. But to everyone who wants to put is in the MAC or say we can't compete in "today's college football" PLEASE don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. We have plenty of people around here who know better.

I was talking about the big ten preparing us, not tressel. As much as i hate the SEC, having to play a tough team every week builds discipline and consistency, and this year the big ten just didnt have it. Now i dont think the big ten is a weak conference at all, i love the big ten and wouldnt want to be in any other conference, but when the competition level is weak during a year, it hurts.

There can be no doubt of that.

Most people where I am (Tallahassee) are saying that it was the same as last year. It wasn't anything at all like last year. Last year we gained 81 total yards with an offense that had been much more prolific during the regular season against a defense with a fraction of the NFL talent that litters the LSU roster.

But that doesn't matter. To most people around the country, especially here in the south; the same thing just happened two years in a row. This is going to give the perception legs. It is going to take a long time to change the way people see us and the rest of the Big 10.

This is why we need to keep the perception of outsiders in perspective. As there perception seems to have such a loose correlation to reality, we must accept that it is meaningless.

A great example will come next September if we beat USC in L.A. There can be no doubt that a win by the Buckeyes there will be called a "big upset". By the middle of the season, it will have been dismissed as such.

Accept it... now. Move on... now. Choose to not let it affect you... now. (grad I'm not worried about... some of you guys need to get a grip though)

The Buckeyes deserve great fans. Part of being a great fan is knowing when to criticize those who dismiss your team and knowing when to dismiss those who criticize your team... and when not to.

i think the coaches were doing everything to minimize overloading a young group of guys that were already very obviously jittery and mistake-prone. putting them into a hurry-up offense would have likely had disastrous results. i know, i know... what's there to lose? probably a great deal, i suppose, given that our coaches are no dummies and understand their kids' strengths and weaknesses, capabilities and limitations much better than we do.

in other words, i think the coaches refrained from having the players try and kick into overdrive because they had a sense that there is a good chance it would, err, traumatize and scar them. imo, that's the last thing you want after doing so much to build up their identity and confidence over the course of the season.

Just to offer an observation, it's completely the other way around for me.

I was despondent last year because we didn't show up and didn't compete.

This year we showed up. Sure, we made too many mistakes; but at least we showed up. We played hard for 60 minutes.

I'm proud of the Buckeyes this year. Last year I just wanted to die.

I agree DBB. Last year I wanted to burn my OSU hat and didn't wear it for at least a week or two.

Today, I wear it and wear it proudly. That game last night was winnable. The Buckeyes just made the critical errors that kept it from occuring. Last year was a different matter.
