Game Thread BCS National Championship Game: tOSU 24, LSU 38 (final)

Status
Not open for further replies.
I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but these items are of note:

  • Ohio State, along with Oklahoma and USC, move into a four-way tie with Florida State for the most appearances in a BCS game, with six.
  • Ohio State moves into a three-way tie with Florida State and Oklahoma for most BCS Championship Game apperances, making their third appearance.
  • Ohio State has a chance (again) to become the first school to ever win two BCS Championship Games.
  • If Ohio State wins the BCS National Championship game, they have a chance to pull within one of Oklahoma and Notre Dame for the record for all-time number of weeks at #1 in the AP Poll (OU & ND both have 95. The latest AP Poll gives Ohio State 93 weeks.)

How does everyone think Todd Boeckman is going to rebound in this game?

Good question. Will JT turn him loose or play conservative? I for one hope we hold nothing back. We need to establish the run, that's a given...but I don't see us lining it up and smashing it down their throats until TB can hit some big ones. After all, LSU is no scUM.

Where would Heacock go? Does he have offers? I know he would certainly be able to coach a team, but is anyone really interested?

That's not what I was getting at. When you listen to experts talk about the best DCs in the game, you rarely hear Heacock mentioned. You'd hear about guys Pelini, Chizik, English, Muschamp, etc. You don't hear about Heacock in those discussions - even though his credentials and accomplishments are as good as anyone's

Could that be a result of the agents for those coaches pushing their clients for face time to increase their appeal in the head coaching market? All of the above are younger than 50 and perhaps better suited to making a long term commitment as the face of a university's football program. I hate to consider that discussions of talent can be broken down to who has the better hype machine behind them, but that is how the media is at this point.

I'm not sure that I agree there. Heacock is a Broyles award finalist this season, which goes out to the top assistant in the country. The selection committee has some strong names, and I think that the best recognition that a football coach can get is from their peers, not necessarily the media.

Broyles Award Selection Committee

Also I should mention the fact that he was honored as national defensive coordinator of the week after Michigan.

I was speaking from what I see in the media. Perhaps I didn't make that clear in my original statements. I'm sure that the perception is different among his peers. No matter what, I'm glad he's on out side.

Agreed, perhaps I misread what you were interpreting. Regardless, I think that you and I are on the same page regarding how the media tends to take an apathetic view towards how good of a coach Heacock truly is.

I saw a Cicero posting on tigerdroppings. Is that you? Nice. Those guys have already ordered the case for the Nat'l Championship.

Yes it was. We will see how they feel on 1/8

We'll put that here:

edit: (not you, ORD, everyone else)[/quote]

Not singling anyone out, but this is a great graphic reminder that we have a thread for that kind of thing. That thread was created for the express purpose of keeping the debate about the media negativity out of this thread.

Also
  • The winner of the BCS-CG will be the first to win TWO BCS-CGs; whoever that happens to be.
  • The winner of this CG will also be the first (and for now, only) multiple participant of the BCS-CG to have a record over .500 in the CG.

I know this is extremely out there, but am I the only man who thinks it (won) or done for Jim Heacock?

YES!

Our D (this includes the 2nd string D) has given up 15 touchdowns this year.

This stat also is strong considering it was against five BIG10 offenses that average 28+ points a game! (PSU, MSU, Purdue, Wisc, and the Illini).

BOTTOMLINE: Heacock needs a raise! I am already salivating over some of his blitz schemes for the NCG!!! LSU will be in for a big surprise if they think they will walk all over this D.

It will be a great game!

:oh:

I've bashed Heacock before, especially after the last two games last year, and this year's Illinois game. But then I look back and realize, the defense really didn't give up the 600 yards to Florida people make it seem like they did. And Illinois' offense, the aggressive freeze-your-defense, run-it-down-your-throat style was just perfect against our defense. LSU doesn't have that. Heacock's done a great job, besides putting Malcolm Jenkins at safety, and I think he will be ready to deal with the same offensive scheme he dominated in the 2004 Alamo Bowl.

Congrats

Congrats on making it to the NC game. I hope all of you that are coming down for the game enjoy yourselves. If you come down to have a good time, I don't think you will be disapointed, win or lose. You WILL get tired of hearing "Tigerbait" but don't believe all the tales about LSU fans. They do like to party and there will always be a few that party too much, but I have seen the same thing at every other venue that I have been to, and I have been to a lot of them over the years. You would be amazed at how many fans from other schools have told me how much they enjoyed themselves visiting LSU, even after hearing all kinds of horror stories about what to expect. It should be a good game and I am glad we have 5 weeks before it is played. If we had to play next week we would have to suit up some of the cheerleaders. We have been a seriously beat up team for the last couple of weeks, but we should be at full strength by game time. Anyone coming down should schedule a little time to visit the WW2 exhibit downtown. Well worth your time. Can't wish you luck, but be safe and have a good time.

Welcome to the board, to 'Tracker and all of the new LSU fans.

My first impression:
This is the biggest, and by far the best, infusion of opposing fan posters that we've had since the series with Texas. Hopefully some of them stick around and contribute after the game like many of the Longhorn fans did until their recent slide.
