The State Penn problem lies with in old Joe Pa not being able to the players they need. Joe Pa need to go before State Penn has a chance. I don't mind them that much. I dont root for other teams to beat them. And its no where neat the hateness of the the Tsun!
Are you drunk?

What I think you're trying to say is that JoePa hasn't gotten the players they need to compete...which is pretty much horseshit. They've gotten the players, it's just been Joe's reluctance to play the underclassmen that's limited PSU's abilities to compete for B10 championships. That seems to be getting sorted out of late.
I hate PSU because of their jackass fans. I can actually cheer for Penn State, which is something I can't say about scUM.

agreed

PSU has lost some of its recruiting power no doubt but their real issue lies in player development/optimal use of the players they have.

They have had a QB on the roster the past 2 years that can run an effective zone read offense and plenty of complimentary skill position guys. Their best RB only plays because the SR ahead of him finally got kicked off the team. The right coaching and they could have been hell on wheels the past 2 years. Instead the QB wasted his soph and jr seasons on the bench behind a pure dropback passer that isn't any better today than he was as a freshman.

I hope Joe Pa stays another 10 years.

I think the fact that Morelli isn't ANY better now than when he got there is indicitive of the problem. How can a player spend 4 years at a school and not improve one bit? I had this very discussion with a few casual PSU fans who couldn't understand why Morelli wasn't better than he is. Easy Answer, POOR COACHING. Look at what Tressel and Daniels did with Troy, here is a kid not even recruited to play the position yet he goes on to win a Heisman at it. Coincidence? No matter how talented a player is coming out of High School there has to be alot of coaching go on at next level and it clearly isn't happening at the QB position at PSU. If you think back even during Robinson's senior year when he played so well his skill set hadn't improved just the skill on the field around him made the results better. PSU has to look past it's loyalty to some position coaches and make the hard decision to bring in some new blood or this cycle will continue.

Also, PSU fans seem to by and large be very anti B10. Stems from:

-their genetic predisposition to be assholes
-their newness to a conference(and the resulting humbling of their program)
-their conspiracy theory that B10 officials are out to get them
-their belief that the B10 sportswriters didn't help them get at least a split NC in 1994

but mainly its just because they are a bunch of dickheads.

I personally root for all B10 teams in Bowl games or OOC games, even scUM. It just does not take much for me to enjoy scUMs demise when they lose one even though I know I should root for them to win.

I'll correct you on this.

1. SOME Penn State fans have been assholes, but the same can be said of any team's fanbase. I'm sorry if you had to experience the dickhead minority firsthand.
2. Penn State is usually in the upper levels of the Big Ten (except for a few losing years), ranked around Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin. I'd hardly call that a humbling of the program.
3. Most Penn State fans don't subscribe to a conspiracy theory that all losses are due to bad calls, but we also don't believe that every single instance of a loss in a game with questionable calls was a result of us simply being outplayed. There are only a couple losses that I believe were due to bad calls.
4. Most that I've talked to don't blame the 1994 exclusion from the NC on the Big Ten, but instead on Nebraska who wanted revenge on us, and they got it. At least we completely trashed Oregon that year.
5. Very few that I've talked to are anti-B10. Most of the Penn State fans I know cheer for Big Ten teams to win for the conference. I know a lot of Penn State fans who want to see Ohio State bring home the national championship.

Morelli actually did improve during his time at Penn State. Early on he was only a little better than Zack Mills (which isn't saying much), and now he's an average quarterback, beating the teams he was supposed to and beating some legitimately good teams. Morelli isn't the best, but he's not as bad as Zack Mills, either.

I lived in Pennsylvania for 14 years and trust me that ISN'T the minority of Penn State fans.....

hmmmmmm....so how many losing years have any of the teams you mentioned had since Penn State came into the big Ten???

No quite a few of you end up blaming Paterno for things he can't control and making excuses for things he CAN control.....

Most of the Penn State fans I had the disadvantage of living around blamed their new "non-independent" status as costing them the split NC.....

5. Very few that I've talked to are anti-B10. Most of the Penn State fans I know cheer for Big Ten teams to win for the conference. I know a lot of Penn State fans who want to see Ohio State bring home the national championship.

Most of the ones I knew and still talk with want to play Syracuse and join the Big East.....

Is PennState1985 back?
Most PSU fans aren't jackasses, I'm sure...just a higher percentage than most schools.

I've lived in Pennsylvania my entire life, only a half hour or so from the Penn State main campus. I live in the heart of Penn State country, and I haven't encountered any that are like you describe (except for a few on YouTube).

Most of them were Zack Mills years. Mills should have never been the starting quarterback.

No quite a few of you end up blaming Paterno for things he can't control and making excuses for things he CAN control.....

If you're talking about the ones who were chanting "Joe must go" in 2004 and then suddenly becoming fans again in 2005, I can't stand those either.

Most of the Penn State fans I had the disadvantage of living around blamed their new "non-independent" status as costing them the split NC.....

None that I've talked to have thought that, generally they attribute it to Nebraska.

Most of the ones I knew and still talk with want to play Syracuse and join the Big East.....

I'm perfectly happy with the Big Ten, but I'd like to see OOC rivalries with Pitt and Syracuse renewed, replacing those snoozers against teams like Coastal Carolina.

My condolences....

Or curtis the Penis years......or Morelli years......

No I'm talking about the ones who thought he walked on water in 1994 and were screeching about how bad he sucked in 1995 and 1996.....

That's good.....but not my experience....

Pitt and Syracuse both suck and honestly next year Pitt would probably be able to beat Penn State anyway.....

The only fans I've encountered remotely like the ones you're talking about I've only encountered on the internet. Thankfully I haven't met any like that in real life.

Nothing could be as bad as 2003 and 2004. Our low point was the 6-4 loss to Iowa in 2004, the defense held Iowa to two field goals, but also produced the only Penn State scores from two safeties. The offense couldn't even score a field goal.

Those are the same fairweather fans I'm talking about. Some of them might have been different people, but they had the same mindset.

That's good.....but not my experience....

Most that I've talked to feel the same way I do, and agree that logically the Big Ten would have wanted Penn State to bring home the NC win for the Big Ten. This was definately Nebraska's way of getting revenge.

Pitt and Syracuse both suck and honestly next year Pitt would probably be able to beat Penn State anyway.....

I would actually be shocked if Pitt beat Penn State nowadays, but crazier things have happened. I agree that Syracuse sucks, but they're a lot better than Florida International, Temple, Coastal Carolina, and Buffalo, and at least they have a history with Penn State.
