DA seeking to determine what Pepper Hamilton investigation into Baylor found

The McLennan County district attorney's office in Waco, Texas, has asked Baylor for full access to an investigation of the university's handling of allegations of sexual assault committed by students, including Bears football players, ESPN has learned.

Sources told ESPN that the DA's office has relayed an informal request to Baylor officials for access to the information from the Pepper Hamilton investigation. The DA's office is seeking to determine if the findings contain evidence of additional crimes by student-athletes, sources said.

Prosecutors also want to know if there is evidence of criminal conduct by Baylor coaches, faculty or staff in connection with sexual assaults by students.

Three Baylor football players have been indicted for sexual assault and crimes against women in the past four years. Former defensive end Shawn Oakman was indicted by a McLennan County grand jury on charges of second-degree felony sexual assault last month. Defensive ends Tevin Elliott and Sam Ukwuachu were convicted of sexual assault in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

On Monday, Baylor offensive lineman Rami Hammad was arrested by Baylor police on charges of felony stalking after his former girlfriend reported several instances in which he allegedly tracked her down, harassed her and twice physically assaulted her, including once at Baylor's athletic facilities on campus.

Hammad, a 21-year-old junior from Irving, Texas, is out on bond after he was arrested Monday and booked into McLennan County Jail on a third-degree felony stalking charge. He has been suspended from all team activities associated with Baylor football, pending resolution of this issue, university officials announced Tuesday.

If true, I don't know any way you can't close the doors to that place. Not just the locker room, but the entire school. Perhaps not forever, but until all living administrative staff involved are taking a dirt nap. Jesus.

im going to try very hard to avoid weighing in on what the actual ncaa punishment should be throughout this. but how they could possibly be charged with anything less than lack of institutional control is beyond me. not saying that won't happen, just that i can't see how it could not be on the short list at this point.

but whatever investigations the ncaa does really should be nothing more than the warm up act. i do not know if it is happening or not. but there absolutely has to be legal investigations into every single member of this mess from the idiots taking the initial reports right up to the board. not claiming to know the guilt or innocence of anyone at this point or even a working knowledge of the texas criminal code. but the claims that have been made.... i have to think at a minimum a shit tone of people "should" be looking at charges of felony witness tampering and intimidation.

Baylor player arrested Monday faced prior sexual assault claim

Baylor offensive lineman Rami Hammad -- arrested on felony stalking charges Monday -- was accused last fall of sexually assaulting a student and violating a university-issued no-contact order after confronting the woman, Outside the Lines has learned.

Hammad is facing felony stalking charges after his former girlfriend reported several instances from March to July in which he tracked her down, harassed her and twice physically assaulted her, including once at Baylor's athletic facilities on campus.

Last fall, a different woman reported to Baylor's Title IX office that she had been sexually assaulted by Hammad. After Hammad confronted the woman about why he was under investigation by the Title IX office, she requested a no-contact order from the university, according to documents reviewed by Outside the Lines. She received it, but three days later, Hammad allegedly confronted her again. She and two witnesses reported that confrontation to police, but she declined to press charges, believing the Title IX office would pursue the matter, she told Outside the Lines.

She additionally told Outside the Lines she was shocked and disappointed that Hammad was allowed to play in Baylor's game against Texas Tech a few days later and the remainder of the season. She said hearing of the felony charges from Monday was "very disheartening."

"This is all Baylor's fault," she said. "Had they taken my case slightly more seriously and put some kind of 'warning' on him, this wouldn't have happened. ... The mannerisms that she described are so similar. It's not just something I wanted to remember."

We complain when they don't arrest rapists, we complain when they do arrest rapists. Those poor souls can't win.
