Barry Bonds (Juiced Merge)

Barry Bonds

Barry Bonds and his agent made a trip to Florida for the MLB winter meetings to let the Giants know that he still wants to play for them. Now, he states, "I don't care about the records or money. I just want a ring." Now come on Barry....If all you cared about was the "ring" then why don't you take a pay cut so the Giants can afford some pitching so you can get your "ring". My fault. Its probably becasue you are an arrogant asshole and a prick. I hope if you play this year the only record you break is-how many freakin' times a pitcher hits your dumbass! Even if he "breaks" Hank Aarons HR record, Hank Aaron will always be the HR champ to me....NEVER will I recognize Barry with that title.

Bonds arrives at meetings seeking job

MIKE FITZPATRICK

Associated Press

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Barry Bonds showed up at the baseball winter meetings Wednesday, arriving for what his agent said would be a busy day as the slugger looks for work.
Many people who have been around Bonds couldn't remember the last time he showed up for this annual event, perhaps as far back as 1993 when he joined the San Francisco Giants.
The Boston Red Sox were the busiest team on the second day of baseball's winter meetings, adding right fielder J.D. Drew and shortstop Julio Lugo to their starting lineup.
The San Diego Padres also made a splash Tuesday by putting Greg Maddux in their rotation.
But while a few free agents finally got snapped up, the first trade at the meetings wasn't announced until Wednesday morning, when the New York Mets shipped pitcher Brian Bannister to Kansas City for young reliever Ambiorix Burgos.
"I do believe the free-agent market is kind of holding off a little bit the trade front, because there are so many free agents still available," Mets general manager Omar Minaya said.
In another possible swap, the Chicago Cubs appeared to be discussing deals involving outfielder Jacque Jones.
Boston's attempts to deal Manny Ramirez appeared to be slowing. But the Red Sox did reach preliminary agreements on a $70 million, five-year contract with Drew and a $36 million, four-year deal with Lugo. If healthy, Drew would bat behind David Ortiz and Ramirez in the middle of the order.
"With David and Manny, if they want to walk those guys, we want them to pay a steep price," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.
Ramirez at times has said he wants to leave Boston, which annually explores trades for him. Giants general manager Brian Sabean joked about a possible Ramirez trade, saying "it might be a four-way." He hinted that he'd been in the suite of Red Sox GM Theo Epstein.
"Boston has vats of Starbucks coffee, cafeteria vats," Sabean said.
Maddux and the Padres, meanwhile, closed in on a $10 million, one-year contract, a deal that would contain a player option for 2008. Agent Scott Boras, without indicating a team, said Maddux's deal "was moving positively ... but not done yet."
Details on Maddux's potential contract with the Padres were disclosed by two people familiar with the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity because no deal had been completed.
"Southern California was always a place Greg wanted to play. He was very happy in L.A. last year," Boras said. "San Diego also has an environment for his family. His decisions are based primarily on his family."
Boras said Barry Zito, another client, was "geographically free." Zito, the top available free-agent pitcher, could wind up with a contract of six or seven years, a length that might eliminate several suitors. The Giants apparently were inquiring about Zito as well.
"In the marketplace there have been three-year deals given for guys that have had substantial injury histories," Boras said. "Last year, we got a five-(year) deal for Kevin Millwood. Zito has pristine durability. He's never missed a start. So definitely he's going to be someone that's in that range."
San Francisco and Borris talked for the second straight day about a deal to keep the left fielder with the Giants - and then Bonds showed at the meetings Wednesday.
"We do have a lot of dialogue with them," Borris said. "I'm not frustrated. It's a business. ... His status is a healthy, 42-year-old unemployed baseball player. He is looking for work on a team with a chance to make the postseason, as a left fielder, DH or a combination of both."
Oakland was hoping to reach an agreement with Mike Piazza, also represented by Borris' agency, to become its designated hitter. That deal could be struck Wednesday.
In Tuesday's only announced free-agent agreement, reliever LaTroy Hawkins and the Colorado Rockies completed a $3.5 million, one-year contract. On Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians completed a $4.25 million, one-year deal with potential closer Joe Borowski and an $11.5 million, three-year contract with outfielder David Dellucci. Borowski's agreement includes a club option for 2008.
In an overheated market, especially for pitchers, Ted Lilly was likely to get a four-year contract, with the Chicago Cubs the most likely destination. Mark Mulder was getting multiyear offers even though he had rotator cuff surgery in September. Houston manager Phil Garner was hoping Andy Pettitte would choose pitching over retirement - and decide to stay with his hometown Astros rather than return to the Yankees.
"I certainly am tainted by my biased feeling that he wants to be in Houston. He needs to be in Houston and we want him to be in Houston," Garner said. "And his family is dying for him to be in Houston. His kids are pining every day at school wondering, 'Oh, Daddy, please don't go anywhere else. Stay in Houston.' I could hear it all over the city."
Boras said reliever Eric Gagne, coming off elbow surgery in April and back surgery in July, had many suitors. The former All-Star closer was born in Montreal, leading to speculation Toronto might be interested.
"It doesn't hurt to have a hockey town involved," Boras said.

16 Million for Barry Bonds? Give me a fucking break. Who put the gun to managements head? Who got the horse's head in his cot? Who in their right mind thinks this is a) good for the Giants? b) good for baseball? c) proff that tax payers ought to provide teams with stadiums?

I hope that spineless jerk of a commissioner has the balls to put an asterisk behind all of this clown's records.

Bonds failed amphetamine test

NEW YORK (AP) - Barry Bonds failed a test for amphetamines last season and originally blamed it on a teammate, the Daily News reported Thursday.

When first informed of the positive test, Bonds attributed it to a substance he had taken from teammate Mark Sweeney's locker, the New York City newspaper said, citing several unnamed sources.

"I have no comment on that," Bonds' agent Jeff Borris told the Daily News on Wednesday night.

I had heard about this last night at some point.

Somehow I'm NOT surprised....

It should be noted that Mark Sweeney has never failed a test so far as we know. You'd think that he would've been taking the same stuff he alledgedly gave to Bonds right?

Still an ass.

Do amphetimines help shrink your head? Eventually they're not gonna be able to fabricate a helmet big enough to fit that big old noggin' of Barry's. I swear his head grows a full hat size every season..

Giants want Bonds but would toss out entourage

BY MICHAEL O'KEEFFE
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Barry Bonds' buddies have become the biggest obstacle between the embattled slugger and the one-year, $20 million contract the San Francisco Giants offered him more a month ago.
Club executives are insisting the contract they offered to Bonds on Dec. 7 includes a proviso that would bar trainers, personal assistants, friends and other members of his entourage from the locker room at San Francisco's AT&T Park and other team facilities.
"The posse rule is the real sticking point in the Bonds deal," a baseball source familiar with the talks said. "Bonds doesn't see why anything needs to be different than in the past, or different from any other players."
Asked to comment on the ongoing talks, Bonds' agent Jeff Borris said last night that he would not characterize them other than to say, "Both the Giants and I are working very diligently on the language of Barry's contract."
Giants officials and Borris are also negotiating over language that would allow the team to withhold Bonds' pay if he missed games because of court appearances, according to sources. Another topic under discussion: What are the team's responsibilities if the 42-year-old left fielder is indicted or runs into other legal problems? The proviso team officials want to insert in Bonds' contract goes beyond the vague language of the standard Major League Baseball contract, which allows clubs to terminate a contract if the player fails "to conform his personal conduct to the standards of good citizenship and good sportsmanship." Giants officials have tried to insert similar language into other contracts so it doesn't appear the team is singling out its controversial star. But in baseball circles, the new rider is known as "Bonds language."

Positively defensive

Bonds: Sweeney not involved in alleged incident

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds said he did not get amphetamines from teammate Mark Sweeney, but did not deny a report Thursday saying he tested positive for the drugs last season.

According to a story in the New York Daily News, the San Francisco slugger failed an amphetamines test in 2006. The newspaper reported that when first informed of the positive result, Bonds attributed it to a substance he had taken from Sweeney's locker.

Thursday, Bonds did not deny that but did apologize to Sweeney.
"He is both my teammate and my friend," Bonds said in a statement. "He did not give me anything whatsoever and has nothing to do with this matter, contrary to recent reports.

"I want to express my deepest apologies especially to Mark and his family as well as my other teammates, the San Francisco Giants organization and the fans," he said.

That's all the Giants star, shadowed by steroids allegations and only 22 home runs from breaking Hank Aaron's career home run record, said about the alleged positive drug test. Bonds has steadfastly denied used performance-enhancing drugs.

"Obviously, we're pleased that Barry has straightened this out," said Sweeney's agent, Barry Axelrod.

Bonds' reported positive test could be another snag in contract negotiations with the Giants. The sides reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year, $16 million contract Dec. 7, but the seven-time NL MVP still hasn't signed the deal or taken the mandatory physical that is part of the process.
