B1G-Pac Challenge Starting in 2017 - suspended

It's a little bit more than that, from what I have read. It is a partnership between the two leagues and will involve all sports, with a focus on Football and Basketball, and cross promotion of each otheron the Big Ten and Pac 12 networks. Perhaps more bowl tie-ins as well. It's not quite a 24 team superconference, but it certainly looks like a (baby) step in that direction...

As of now, looks like in 2017, the Bucks will have Oklahoma, North Carolina, and a PAC-12,14,16 school as their non-conference games.

Amazingly smart move by the commish of the B1G and PAC to make this happen. Guaranteed solid non-conference opponent every year starting in 2017. So all of the "You never play anyone" naysayers can all STFU.

It basically is a 24 team superconference. You will have 9 B1G games and a Pac 12 game. That leaves only two "cupcakes" a year. I say up that to 2 B1G vs Pac games and telling everyone else to go pound sand.

Sounds like the 9 game B1G conference schedule may be a bit up in the air at the moment.

With the additional one-game-a-season commitment to the Pac-12, Delany said the Big Ten ? which added Nebraska as a member this year ? likely will rethink its move to a nine-game conference schedule in football in 2017. Scott said his league will stick with nine.

There are some differences, though, each conference still has its own champion, and under the current BCS system, the two champions may not face each other in the Rose Bowl, if one or both is playing for the MNC. It certainly is a step in that direction, and Scott and Delany seem to be moving in a far less reckless fashion than other conferences, who are shitting their collective pants, as we speak.

Any chance we restructure our schedule (ie drop Oklahoma or North Carolina)? After our recent schedule change for our B1G slate I know we dropped a team (I believe Tennessee), so now that we have another new gauranteed game I would assume we would drop one of those two. Either that or our schedule will be outrageously difficult (9 B1G games, 1 PAC 12 game, 1 Big 12 game, and 1 ACC game).

Wow. Talk about smart business decisions! This would be a big win-win for both conferences in so many facets. Would give the SEC a big FU as well, which you've got to love. The Pac 12 probably has more to gain from this, but the B1G would definetly benefit, especially with regards to future scheduling. And there's tradition between the two conferences, being Rose Bowl partners for one thing...

I think that is part of this whole thing, though. They want to improve SOS.

That is the bigger news from that release, that the B1G is re-thinking the 9 game conference schedule.

But about the news itself, it is a GREAT move by the PAC & B1G. Plus the 'neutral' site stadiums could be off the hook. LA's new NFL stadium? Seattle? Denver? Phoenix? Then Indy, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland.

It will be also interesting how they put the matchups together? If they wait til Spring/Summer it could be a straight best of the best matchup or have some forumla so we don't see the same matchup every year.

I know people are looking at the football aspect, but for other sports this should be fun as the Olympic sports should be great matchups too.

Even better is the likes of Notre Dame being on the outside looking in when it comes to their regular games with USC, Stanford, Michigan, michigan state, and Purdue. There are already rumors circulating that Michigan is going to cancel that ridiculous 25 year contract they signed in order to play Pac 12 teams
