B1G CCG: Sparty +9.5 vs Wisconsin (ov/un 57.5) Sat 8 ET, Fox

If there really are 9000 seats still available, it shows the genuine lack of interest within the fanbases. I understand that the game is Indianapolis, but if OSU or UM were playing in it, you can bet your ass that it would be a sellout. It's amazing to me that people in the B1G clamored for more parity, well we certainly have it now... and what an ugly conference it is. That wasn't meant to be a personal knock, just find it amazing that you can't find 63,000 fans between the two schools.

I hope they scrap the corporate CCG show and switch to the PAC 12 model of letting the higher ranked team (or the head-to-head winner if there was one) host the CCG. More tickets would usually be available due to larger stadiums (if it's tOSU, TSUN, PSU, Wiscy, Nebraska, Iowa, or Sparty doing the hosting), and it would be more of a college environment, plus there's a higher likelihood of a team with a chance of finishing in the BCS top-2 of winning and making the BCS Title game.

Other than that, Mr. Delany, why do you want to go to the pro $tadiums? They should be able to work out something where the ticket sales, etc. from the CCG host are shared with the conference, so I can't think of a reason to use the pro stadiums other than the guaranteed number of luxury boxes available, and money kicked into the deal from the local governments/chambers of commerce.

Screw Lucas Oil, Soldier Field, Lambeau, Ford Field, Browns Stadium, Paul Brown Stadium, Heinz Field, and Vikings/Mall of America Stadium if it gets built!

Play a college game in a college stadium, and let the local fans of the team that's earned it help spur them to a BCS Title Game spot.

[/soapbox]

Amen. All this hysteria about playing in cold weather, or rain, or God forbid a snowflake should fall, is ridiculous. I can just hear the SEC recruiters, so you want to go someplace where you'll get cold while playing for the rights to the BCS CG?

If it can't be in a college stadium then don't succumb to arena ball. The best way to chase ND out of the midwest market is to hit 'em in their home base, Chicago. Put the game in Soldier Field and act like you've got a pair.

No harm.

I think the issue is that when you have a game like this and offer a large amount of tickets to the public and Colts season ticket holders you are looking at a situation where everyone is just out to make a quick buck and looking to dump their tickets for a small profit. If the B1G wants to avoid issues like this in the future offer far less tickets to the public to begin with, and then when the game participants have been determined then start selling them in huge amounts.

This. Look, Indy is a nice, little town. It, however, is not a destination for anyone lacking a rooting interest in one of the two teams playing...and apparently not much of a lure for even them.

Put the [censored]ing game in the heart of one of America's world class cities (whch has the largest concentration of Big Ten alumni in the world) in an outdoor arena--which will be sold out for every remaining Bears game btw.

Any tickets being held in hope of a quick profit would not be counted among that 9k.

Sure, once you get beyond the top restaurant in America, another 20+ Michelin starred restaurants, some of the best steakhouses in the world and a great neighborhood and ethnic dining scene, it's true the food gets pretty crappy.

Look I know you think Chicago is the bomb. I've been to many of the world's great cities; Chicago is Novosibirsk with better museums.

Chicago is listed on the alpha/hub/world (whatever term you want to use) city list because of it's business. Take away the business travellers and it's Cleveland ...with better museums.

Business activity (there must be something attracting those travelers?) is certainly part of it but so are cultural institutions, regional and international travel hub status, educational institutions (NW, UofC), scientific institutions (fermilab and argonne national labs) and many other components. Hell, I'm the first to admit that Chicago has a lot of faults starting with an utterly corrupt political establishment that operates more like a banana republic than a world class city, but being "Cleveland with better museums" isn't one of them.

My point for the purposes of this thread is that it is not Indy (or Cleveland) by any stretch, and it has a hell of a lot to do with more than just museums. It is the only world class city in the region and happens to have both the largest population of Big Ten alumni in the world and a downtown NFL facility. That Indy was chosen has to do with the Big Ten being greedy (Indy pays for the tournaments; Chicago won't) and being pussies that somebody might complain about a chapped vagina if the game were held outdoors.

I'm fairly certain that more than enough local Sparties and Buckies would buy up tickets for Saturday's game if it were in Chicago rather than Indy that the Big Ten would not have to be humiliating itself taking craigslist ads out for "seat fillers."

...And it's absolutely crawling with loser Cubs fans.

The reason the game isn't sold out isn't because of it's location, it's because not one of the four major programs in the conference made it into the game this year.

This was not a good year for the conference to have its inaugural game. The first impression is going to be tough to shake.

It's tough to say because it's in it's first year. It has to be allowed to build on itself.

The B1G needs to make this an event. Look at the Frozen Four - despite the relatively small number of people who follow college hockey, people go year-after-year regardless of whether "their" team is playing. That's the kind of following the B1G needs for this event.

Not to mention the Museum of Art with one of the greatest collections of impressionist art, or the House of Blues and any number of great jazz and blues joints.
