Lesson two: Franchised insurers can be a mixed-bag of rates/QoS, so you really have to call your agent. State Farm is arguably the biggest example of this. State Farm agents are not created equal.jlb1705;1505122; said:Lesson: online car insurance info/quotes are not a good way to find the best deal. Get a referrals from people you know/meet locally and go see agents.
jlb is lucky to have a good experience with State Farm where he lives. If my local State Farm agent was on fire I wouldn't cross the street to piss on him. I had both auto insurance and an inland marine policy with them years ago and they jacked my rates up so terribly in my second year I left them for Progressive.
Now I'm with Geico and have been very happy. It may sound like the commercial but I did save a bunch of money by switching, didn't have to under insure myself to do it, can restructure my policy a la carte online whenever I want to fit my budget, and am now enjoying a significant discount for being in the 5-10 year bracket for both safe driver (no accidents/no tickets) and customer loyalty.
