ACC returns to 8-conference-game football schedule with Notre Dame Fighting Irish independent again
The ACC plans to return to its normal eight-conference-game, divisional format -- with Notre Dame as an independent -- when the 2021 football season kicks off in September, the league announced Thursday.
In its release, the league noted that a return to play and the schedule as released are contingent on COVID-19 guidelines. Last season, the ACC made changes to its schedule to play during the coronavirus pandemic, including Notre Dame as a full-time conference member and playing 10 league games.

ACC to allow transfers within conference to play immediately
The Atlantic Coast Conference has eliminated its rule requiring athletes to sit out a season if they transfer within the league.
The move is the latest across college sports to loosen restrictions on transferring athletes so they can switch schools and play right away. The NCAA is moving toward making the so-called one-time exception available for all athletes.

Thamel noted that the ACC is in a bad spot because of the deal it made with ESPN to get the ACC Network. The conference’s network is far behind the same revenue that the SEC Network produces and much of that has to do with the initial deal.
Keep in mind that deal runs through 2036.
“The ACC is in a difficult spot because it ate a bad deal from ESPN to get a linear network. Now it is frozen for two decades in an antiquated agreement, as the ACC gives schools more than $32 million per year,” Thamel wrote.

ACC Announces Teams Will Have to Forfeit If Games Get Canceled Due to COVID-19
The ACC announced teams will have to forfeit games if they are left with an insufficient number of players due to COVID-19.
Games will not be rescheduled for COVID-related reasons for any purpose. If both teams do not have enough players to play, both will be assigned a loss in the standings.
The rule applies regardless of a team's vaccination status.
