Atlanta Falcons (Official Thread)

from here on out atlanta has green bay, the saints twice, detroit, tampa and houston. 10 wins is more optimistic than realistic.

We'll spilt with NoLa (always do) and win the home game against Tampa. Sweep Carolina, beat Seattle, Tennessee and Indy and Jacksonville and Minnesotta.
That leaves three games to get one win. GB at home, Detroit in Detroit and Houston in Houston.

and considering atlanta's shitty on the road, and green bay is dismantling everyone in their path, assuming you sweep all the games you should win plus take one of those 3 is more optimistic than realistic.

They lost two games on the road last year genius. Against Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. I wouldn't say their shitty on the road.

I liked what i saw out of the receivers and Matt late in the game. Julio had his come out party and he looked good out there. The O-line stinks for some reason and they need to get it together. The defense played well most of the game and gave the offense multiple chances to win. A good game against Seattle will hopefully get them back on track.

This team is going to give me a heart attack...

Win is a win, but yes - that was wayyyy closer than it needed to be.
1st half we looked like the dominant team I remember. 2nd half was a disaster.

Grimey continues to impress me. Plays his ass off every week.

Julio is defiantly impressing. He looks like he will be a top 5 receiver in the future. Two 100 yard games in a row is impressive in the NFL for a rookie. Doesn't happen to often. Matt seems to be comfortable with him now. The offense was an improvement over the previous weeks. The D needs to stay consistent and not let up a 20 point lead...

First rookie WR since Randy Moss to have 2 tds over 40 yards in the same game, coming off of a 3 week break due to a hamstring injury no less.

Beast.

Mike Mularkey, Offensive Coordinator, has left the Falcons to become the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Brian Van Gorder, defensive coordinator, has left the Falcons to become DC for Auburn.

Two big areas that need to be addressed prior to draft evaluation.

The rumored leading candidates for OC are Mike Martz and Dirk Koetter
The rumored leading candidates for DC are Mike Noland and Steve Spagnoulo.

Best of luck getting someone more productive than Julio.

well, to be accurate, it would be julio being more productive than greg little + phil taylor + #22 pick + whoever cleveland takes with atlanta's 4th rounder.

and, as far as productivity goes, chew on the following:

atlanta scored more points per game in 2010 without jones. they scored more points per game in 2011 when jones didn't play due to injury. they were 3-0 this year without him and 6-8 with him.

I think that would be 7-7 as they finished 10-7, but either way, it's surprising. Would drafting Jones last year have been better for the Browns? Who can really say, but given the QB play and OL, I suspect not. In the long run, I think the Browns are better for the trade as they can fill multiple positions of need with the picks (assuming they draft smart), and I think the Falcons helped themselves by getting an impact WR and don't need the extra picks as much. I'd call the trade a wash.

atlanta has several glaring holes. they are a more efficient offensive team without julio jones as the stats from last season and this season show. that team's biggest need wasn't a #2 wr. they've now figured that out the hard way.

Ridiculous. Jones is arguably the 2nd most productive offensive rookie.
I'm giving him the edge over AJ because he played fewer games and scored more touchdowns. Cam is more productive than both.

To say nothing of the fact that Atlanta played a first place schedule this year. Facing the Packers, Eagles (w/Vick), Lions on the Road, Bears on the Road (w/J-Cut) and the Texans (road).

The team made a substantial investment in a highly productive weapon and thus far it's paid off.

did it pay off with more offensive production than last year? no.
did it pay off with a better record than last year? no.
did it pay off with a better performance in the playoffs than last year? no.
did it pay off with better offensive production this year when he didn't play? no.

how exactly has it paid off?
