Not necessarily sure this is just a southern thing. Races are held all over the place. California, Bristol, Michigan...etc. It's truly a nationwide sport that will always be associated with the Redman Tobacco crowd

Here's a sort-of misplaced landmark: Weidman's Restaurant in Meridian, Mississippi. Great corned beef and cabbage; delicious bourbon cream pie in the heart of Baptist (babdist) rural Mississippi, the most backward region in the entire United States.

Well, I like Vernors -- but it's Canada Dry if you're going to ruin Jack Daniels, or cut the taste of Kessler's. You can have all the Cincinnati Chili you want. It's about as bad as that vinegar and mustard crap the NC folks slap on perfectly good pulled pork. Do leave some room for Graeter's or Aglamesie's ice cream.

Its funny to listen to em go off on the whole bbq issue..I thought I was going to see a war when a NCer, a Missouri boy, and a Louisanan got talkin smack on some bbq.

Personally that vinegar and mustard stuff they put on the pork here in NC is a nice marinade...that is about the extent of it though....
