Arizona State Sun Devils (official thread)

How many times am I going to have to say that I KNOW tOSU has a better football program than ASU? How many times do I need to say it before you get it through your heads that I realize this?
Then why do you continue (see below) making the comparison?

If tOSU has the better program, then it doesn't matter why we lost 2 games last year while you lost 3. Or, are you saying that since we lost to lesser opponents than you, we didn't have as good a program as you last year?

reagdog;1218505; said:
I made the point that in my OPINION, ASU played 3 really good teams and tOSU played 1 really good team. Like I said, USC stomped Illinois and I don't care when the game was - Oregon stomped Michigan. I don't think Wisconsin or Illinois would have beat Oregon or Texas. Oregon would have probably went to the national championship game if DD didn't tear his ACL.

So it's not that tOSU has the better program. It's just that YOUR OPINION is that it wasn't as strong last year as ASU?

Right?

Otherwise, I'm not clear what you're trying to say. If anything, it seems to me that you made a statement that got called out, and now you're trying to back pedal.

If you guys are going to start making excuses why you lost games and why games were close, then I will say that ASU lost our #1 running back in the middle of the year (Ryan Torrain). We didn't have him for the 3 losses at the end of the season. I'm not saying we would have won those games, but it couldn't have hurt to have him available.

Whose making excuses?

Are you saying that if Torrain hadn't gotten hurt, ASU would have been the better team last year?

Last year was Erickson's first year and we went 10-3. I'm happy about that. Maybe that isn't tOSU standards, but it is a step in the right direction for ASU.

What would you be happy with this year?

I have about 10 posts to my name and 2 days experience. I wasn't familiar with the "transitive property" and that it could never be used to compare teams. I understand it isn't a very good measuring stick, but head to heads have to account for something? Not everything - but something.

I apologize if I don't have proper Buckeye Planet etiquette, but I'm a quick learner so I'm open to good suggestions.

I remember seeing an article last year that showed, through around 8 steps of the transitive property, that some obscure I-AA team would've beaten LSU. I don't remember all the steps, but I remember two of them were Michigan losing to App. St. and LSU losing to Kentucky. I wish I could find that article now, to show you the absurdity of using the transitive property.

2) Don't bash Ohio State
3) No cursing in recruiting forum
4) Roll with the punches and expect absolute homerism.
5) Stay proud of your team.

Best suggestion I can offer is that if you're mature enough to make it through your first few days (was pretty rough for me too), then you'll find that this is a great place.

It's one of the reasons it's a great place IMO. Teenagers (and those with the maturity of teenagers) typically (with a few notable exceptions) don't have enough maturity to stick around after the unofficial initiation that people endure here (Buckeye or not). Not to disparage teenagers... my own level of discourse was something other than it is now back in the... ummm.... some decade that was a long time ago.

6) Proudly and definitively proclaim your team "has a shot" in any and all circumstances.

i.e. ASU is playing USC? I think ASU has a shot.
Corey Adams? ASU definitely has a shot.
*any recruit* has a list of 14 possible schools, none of which are ASU? I still think ASU has a shot.

Hey, it worked for the Illinois guys.
