Are Buckeye fans spoiled?

Legend
Granted, I have been to precious few events in person (2 FB, 1 BB), but I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed with the energy level of the crowds. They are very vocal at certain times: band/player entrance, kickoffs, scores; but are quick to sit on their hands and seem disinterested. For football, I was in the rich folk seats, lower rows - A deck, which may have been a factor. I felt that if I showed the enthusiasm that is normal for me during games, I would have offended some people around me. Is it because the bar is set so high that anything but a classic game just doesn't do it anymore? I'm not questioning any-one's support here, I just wanted to start a conversation on if/why this may be true. I have much more to say, but I want to hear other people's opinions.

A lot of that depends on how close the games are too, it's hard to see a lot of energy when we are blowing out an opponent or there there isn't a whole lot going on. For example, last years tsun game, granted I liked watching the result, but it wasn't an exciting game by any means, even though it was within reach for those scummers all the way to the end, you could see on the field that they weren't going to come back.

I yelled the whole time.

I try to make it in to as many games as possible.. growing up I was lucky enough that the old man or grandpa would always want to go.. I've seen about 5 games a year on average for as long as I can remember. I consider myself blessed and the last few years I make sure to always stash enough money to take 1 roadtrip and see a diffrent big 10 stadium and to scalp a few home games and get inside.

That being said, I never ever am 'relaxed' or 'quiet' and don't really give a shit if I offend someone by getting excited or standing up and yelling on 3rd downs. Theres nothing like the ramp entrance, the roar of the crowd as a tailback cuts up field, or a big defensive stop.

Just thinking of the walk down lane before a game in a sea of red gives me goosebumps.

Spoiled? Yes, lately we've been.. Non-enthusiastic? GTFO, we're Buckeyes.

Of course the crowd is going to be up for games like that. Any team's fans are going to go crazy when they're watching an epic battle, even if it's a Div. III game. As an example, I went to last year's Wisky game, one of the closer games last season. The only time when the crowd really went nuts was when Beanie scored his first TD to take back the lead. And even then it only lasted for a short time. I had a hard time finding someone to give me a high five. I don't expect absolute bedlam when we play a weaker OOC game, but when the conference big boys come into our house, shouldn't the crowd make them yearn to get back on the bus? Respectfully, of course. Not like State Penn hooligans.

I firmly believe that we do have The Best Damn Fans in the Land. When I see the amazing number of people who make the trip to away games and bowls, I know that Buckeye fans are a special breed. Maybe my expectations are too high because of the few opportunities I have to attend games. Is it better to sit in the upper decks where there are more students and younger fans? Are there some sections that are livelier than others? You're right, CCI, I do need to attend more games. I have one friend who has season tix, so I'm good for at least one game a season. Looks like this year will be Purdue.

This is why I go to bars to see games get drunk see a scummer and ride his ass until he's had enough then leaves. I have the reputation as the biggest "asshole" buckeye fan in my hometown. As to the topic of the thread I've never been to a game, I know it sucks, so I'm not sure. I'm guessing sitting with the elitist swine probably didn't help.

The only thing we've been spoiled with is success. Barring the last two NC' games this team has been on a major run for the past 6 years.

The fans at the Washington game were very enthusiastic; however I will submit, when were kicking the crap out of a lesser opponent (no offense) its kinda hard to maintain a tremendous amount of energy.

Bingo.

I'd hate to see how some of our fans react the next time we actually lose 3 games in a season. I have no doubt some would even call for Tressel's head. That's spoiled.

Nothing quite like the reaction from members when we actually lose. Last year, after Illinois, I was shocked at how many people were badmouthing the players and coaching staff. Me, personally, I am a fan of a lot of sports and I realize you really can't win them all, no matter how much you would like to, and the lows only make the highs that much sweeter.

Of course we're spoiled! How could we not be?
And as for losing. Losing I can handle. A perceived lack of effort drives me crazy(Illinois). We saw too much of that under the previous coach. I do not expect that now, but kids will be kids and don't always have focus.
