The new iPhone 5S:

First time I've ever said this about an iPhone... kinda fugly.

Not fugly - a 64-bit A7 chip.

This is why I always upgrade during the "S" cycle. Takes all of the major changes of the previous devices, and refines them with a nice spec boost.

Gotta go. If somebody else wants to keep the updates rolling, go for it.

I guess I can get behind the white/silver one. I use a case on my phone too, but I prefer a soft white/translucent silicone case where you can still see the back of the phone. When I upgrade from my 4S I'm going to miss the pristine all-white look.

The gold looks tacky to me - a little too Robin Leach.

I'm excited for the faster chip, the motion co-processor and the upgraded camera.

I'm in wait-and-see mode on the fingerprint sensor. I don't use a passcode on my phone because I'm responsible and don't leave it lying around. To me my phone is about convenience, and a passcode is an inconvenience. I don't want a fingerprint scan to add extra steps or time to what I'm trying to do, I want it to make things simpler and more direct.

And of course, I'm excited for iOS7. That said, it's going to be a tough decision on whether or not to upgrade the firmware on my jailbroken 4S. iOS7 borrowed heavily from a lot of jailbreak tweaks that I already use, so if I do upgrade I won't lose much. There are a few things that I consider near-essential though that I'd miss out on for a while - like being able to add more than 4 icons to my dock and scrolling it, setting custom tones for push notifications, maxing out the alarm clock volume independent of other volume controls, etc.

Same boat for me except I'm on my 5 (about upgrading to 7 from JB 6). Tough decide

Yep, going down my list of installed tweaks, the only things I'd miss out on are:
  • Alarming (ensures my alarms are at full volume in the morning, even if the volume is turned down)
  • Infinidock (Add extra icons, pages to the dock)
  • BrowserChooser (Sets Chrome as the default browser)
  • Nitrous (speeds up Chrome)
  • PushTone (allows me to get rid of the stupid Sportscenter tone on my Scorecenter push notifications)
  • RingerX VIP (ensures that a full-volume ringtone is played when my wife calls or texts - regardless of what the volume is set at.)
That's only 5 out of about 20 tweaks I have installed. Unfortunately, those are probably the most essential 5.

Jailbreakers are talking like they've already identified the exploits they're going to use to open up iOS7. Hopefully that means that a useful jailbreak solution is not far off. With iOS7 GM being released today, I guess their work begins in earnest right now.
