Anybody order from ATT? I'm not seeing anything beyond the order being processed. DAUM...

Then again, last update on my account was 6/18... and we ARE talking about ATT afterall. Who knows... maybe it's at home when I get there.

Here's to hoping... traveling on business Wednesday and Thursday... would be fun to have a new toy...

On the iOS 4 front, you can now have more than one Microsoft Exchange account on your iPhone. MS Exchange is the the only way to set up Gmail for push, so now I can have push email for both work and personal accounts. I have no idea why anybody would want a unified inbox though.

6 Takes on Apple's iPhone 4

First reactions are generally good
"Battery life has been an Achilles' heel with earlier versions of this device. It's noticeably improved, and that's a good thing, because much of what this device can do will require more power, over more time. You're gonna want more battery. With light use, but with 3G data and WiFi turned on the whole time, I got a full 4 days of battery life. With very heavy video recording and playback, instant messaging, email and data tethering over 3G, I got a full day of battery life. I didn't have enough time before this review to do careful benchmark testing against Apple's claims, so I can't provide specific percentages, but it felt like the battery life was a good 20-25% meatier."
That's impressive, though I'll wait until I hear from more regular users.

however I think I've heard this before
However, on at least six occasions during my tests, the new iPhone was either reporting "no service" or searching for a network while the old one, held in my other hand, was showing at least a couple of bars. Neither Apple nor AT&T could explain this. The iPhone 4 quickly recovered in these situations, showing service after a few seconds, but it was still troubling."
Fool me once... fool me twice...

Upgraded to OS 4 today and was reminded of the one thing that does suck about the iPhone ... and that's the whole pulling-teeth ordeal of upgrading iTunes, QuickTime, and Safari to the latest versions before being allowed to patch the phone's OS. I get home all pumped up to sync my phone and install the OS 4, and have to wait a half-hour plus one Windows reboot later to even get to the point where I can download it. Then, once all those hoops have been jumped through, there is the long process of waiting for the iPhone to back itself up, flash itself back to factory default, patch to new OS, then resync all the applications. All told, it took over an hour.

That said, the OS is great. My iPhone 3G (not 3GS, so I cannot comment on the multitasking) is worlds faster and oddly picks up a far stronger wi-fi signal than it ever has before. I can now get wi-fi in the far corner of my three season room, which is the furthest point in the house and through one concrete floor and the foundation to my wi-fi hub in the basement at the opposite corner of the house. Pre 4.0, I lost wi-fi the moment I stepped out the kitchen to the three season room. Now, I can sit outside and have two rings on the wi-fi signal strength meter. Word. That alone was worth the pain of the update. Speed, battery, email enhancements, and app sorting/grouping are all gravy in comparison to that.

I'm really not sure how it's even possible, but I'm not going to complain. OS 4 is slick and fast. I love my iPhone even more now, especially with all the 99 cent EA games I bought today!

Yes - you can view your inboxes individually by account or all together in the unified inbox.

As for multitasking, it seems like there is little to no effect on battery life or memory, which seemed to be Apple's priority in adding this. I probably won't make too much use of it because I don't stream audio or need to use a second app simultaneously with a GPS app.

i have multiple business emails (from multiple entities) that have to be checked individually. it really doesnt matter and is only to have them sort of purposes, though it is nice to return the email from the address it was sent to so people dont think you get the emails screened (which sometimes i do). well see how it works and what i think though in a bit...
