I am trying to hook up my 3GS to my Samsung TV to play music. I'm trying to go from the headphone jack to the TV. I bought a Stereo Headphone to RCA "Y" cable (Red/White audio) from Best Buy, put them into my TV's A/V IN, but I can't get any sound. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: And will the ios 4.0 be available at midnight or later on tomorrow?

Is your TV new? Does it have USB input? Is there any chance you know the model # of it?

EDIT: iOS4 Releases Tomorrow, Get Ready Tonight

My tv is a few years old. It has a USB slot for service updates but hats it. It may nit be recognizing it bc it needs a video input plug to recognize that input. It's a samsug 32" series 3.

I'm going to try it with my new Sammy plasma when I pick it up tonight with just the red/white audio plugs

It may not be working if the TV is looking for an accompanying video signal to go with it. Try to "trick" your TV by hooking in some kind of video source to go with your iPod's audio.

Yup that's what I was going to try. Then do I just start playing music on my phone and it should work or are there settings on my phone/tv I need to adjust?

I don't know for sure because I haven't tried a similar setup myself. I just did a search because I was curious about your problem and that's one suggestion I found.

The only other thing I'd add is that I assume that whatever video signal you're using to trick it needs to be 'on' and not just hooked up.

Okay, new TV hooked up and everything. I did the white/red plug with "tricking" the TV into a video signal and it worked. However, the device needed to be on.

Now another option, that I briefly saw and looked into, was the new TV had a USB in the back. I plugged in my iphone, and it recognized it, however it said I didn't have any music on the device, but it did recognize my photos. Any help on this one?

Do you buy all your music from itunes? If so I'm sure it's in a format/DRM is keeping the tv from seeing the music.
