They're way too liberal with their 'proof' label. I like the general look of the device, but it doesn't look like Apple's sleek design. Those buttons and the edging looks a little rough, more like an iphone knockoff.

Endgadget is saying this is most likely a handmade/demo type model. It has features of what "might" be in the new phone but it will probably end up looking more sleek like you are saying.

Very interesting, I wonder what gizmodo paid to get that thing. The look is growing on me a little bit, though I still think the old style was more sleek.

No replaceable battery is still a big mistake imo, especially with the increased screen, processor & streaming power consumption.

When I picked up my new Blackberry at Sprint a few weeks ago, my drop dead gorgeous sales person (look for a brunette named Rachel at the Sawmill store) told me there are rumors of the iPhone coming to Sprint, but nothing she can openly confirm with me.

It will happen soon, me thinks.

TTIWWOP

I would love to get Sprint when my ATT contract is up, but I doubt the fiancee will go for it since we're consolidating to a family plan.

Everyone's been saying that to get people to hang around with their network.

I like the old iPhone look a LOT more...but I want specs NOW. I can't decide on the new one or 3gs...

One thing I saw interesting in the pictures of the supposed 4g/HD/whatever you wanna call it, is that it had phillips head screws on the bottom.

It's most likely a prototype in the pictures above. Check out gizmodo.com they've got a good review of what was in the iphone that was found in a bar.

Well that didn't take long. Apple wants this device back.

Well, how can I explain this? I got some interesting calls today. It was Apple. And they wanted their phone back.

I told them, all they have to do is claim it ? on record. This formal request from Apple's legal department, asking for their phone back, is that. It proves?if there was any doubt in your mind?that this thing is real.

Here's my reply:

Bruce, thanks.
Here's Jason Chen, who has the iPhone. And here's his address. You two should coordinate a time.
[Blah Blah Blah Address]
Happy to have you pick this thing up. Was burning a hole in our pockets. Just so you know, we didn't know this was stolen when we bought it. Now that we definitely know it's not some knockoff, and it really is Apple's, I'm happy to see it returned to its rightful owner.
P.S. I hope you take it easy on the kid who lost it. I don't think he loves anything more than Apple except, well, beer.
And since this was the only missing piece of the puzzle, we have now both extinguished any doubts of its origin but also, we get to give the phone back. *warm, fuzzy, huggy feelings of legal compliance*

(Our legal team told us that in California the law states, "If it is lost, the owner has three years to reclaim or title passes to the owner of the premises where the property was found. The person who found it had the duty to report it." )

I'm sad to see it go. We reasoned this pretty little piece of hardware is probably something we'll see again, but who knows when. For some of us, that date can't come soon enough.

This sums up my thoughts

Every post I read furthers my guess that this is the biggest PR coup we've seen from The Fruit. I outlined it in my last post, but damn, it just keeps getting better.

Come on now, if anything should prove it - just look at the constant Apple posts the past couple weeks. AND THEN they get a letter from the company admitting it's their device (that's a first) and without any legal-ese? One paragraph from a chief general counsel of a Fortune 500 rockstar company? Seriously? I bet - and I'd place money on it - that we'll see pictures of said general counsel picking the damn thing up!

That is when, you know, it's hit level 50 of ridonkulous.

The simple fact that they asked for it back cracks me up. Sure, there could be trade secrets in there - but damn - Giz has had it for weeks. They could have GPS located the thing every time it was turned on, and showed up at the door big-brother style to ask for it back.

It all smells of.. absolute lols.

Yeah not to mention the serendipity of a "lost" cell phone finding its way into the hands of a leading tech blog instead of the hands of some kid who's going to take it to RadioShack to try to activate it on a prepaid SIM or something stupid like that. What are the odds?
