Yeah not to mention the serendipity of a "lost" cell phone finding its way into the hands of a leading tech blog instead of the hands of some kid who's going to take it to RadioShack to try to activate it on a prepaid SIM or something stupid like that. What are the odds?
and not just a leading tech blog, but an insufferable group of apple fanbois. Tremendous free advertising with far more impact than the paid kind.

Next-gen iPhone splayed, battery probably not meant to be replaced by the unwashed masses -- Engadget
the prominently-placed translucent tab underneath the battery imploring only "authorized service providers" to proceed, which we figure is a pretty strong sign that Apple will continue its nefarious legacy of blocking owners from managing their own juice -- a fact that's corroborated by Giz's claim that it takes the removal of two screws and a suction cup to get in there anyhow

Apple Blows Out Earnings Thanks to Huge iPhone Sales: Tech Ticker, Yahoo! Finance

Apple Blows Out Earnings Thanks to Huge iPhone Sales
Posted Apr 20, 2010 05:10pm EDT by Dan Frommer in Electronics, Mobile

From The Business Insider, April 20, 2010

Apple just blew out the quarter, and guidance is strong, too. Earnings, revenue, and iPhone sales all beat expectations by a mile.

After slipping 1% in regular trading to $244.59, Apple shares surgred in the immediate after-hours reaction to an all-time high above $264.

Most impressive: Apple shipped 8.75 million iPhones last quarter, versus expectations around 7 million. Incredibly, iPhone sales more-than doubled vs. the prior year.

Mac sales were solid: 2.94 million shipped, versus expectations around 2.7 million. And Apple's iPod business is still showing signs of life: 10.89 million units shipped vs. 9 million Street consensus.

Cont'd ...

Anybody wishing they had bought Apple stock back in 2003 when it was $7 a share? I mean, it was certainly a gamble at $4/share when AAPL appeared dead in the water in 1998, but by 2003 it was fairly obvious the PowerBooks were popular and the iPod line was solid. Just $1,000 on AAPL seven years ago would be worth about $73,000 this morning.

I think there have been 2 splits since. One of my buddies bought 1000 shares of it back in 2003, he held it until it hit 15. IF he was able to hold it all the way until today he would have little over a million dollars worth of Apple stock. I like to rub it in, because it eats at him.

Google to iPhone users: No free navigation for you! ? Boy Genius Report

Much to the chagrin of iPhone users across the globe, Google has stated for the record that it will not be bringing Google Maps Navigation to the iPhone. Yesterday it was reported that Google’s Mobile Maps product manager promised iPhone users that the free turn-by-turn will be available in the App Store in the future. Definitely bad news for iPhone users, but on the plus side Google did confirm that app will be ported to other mobile platforms. Apple users, do not despair just yet: you still have the unknown potential of PlaceBase, no?

Probably not in Apples best interest to refuse some of googles apps but demand others. While I figure a lawsuit will come from this, I find it amusing that iPhone users are all up in arms about it. Guess what? Apple has stated they don't want anything google on the iPhone, and Google is just complying.

Police seize gear from Gizmodo iPhone blogger

Authorities seized computers, digital cameras, a cell phone and other items from a technology blog editor who posted pictures and details of a lost iPhone prototype.

A computer-crime task force made up of multiple law enforcement agencies searched Gizmodo editor and blogger Jason Chen's house and car in Fremont, Calif., on Friday, according to a statement and search warrant documents provided by Gizmodo.

The warrant, issued by a Superior Court judge in San Mateo County, said the computers and other devices may have been used to commit a felony. Steve Wagstaffe, spokesman for the San Mateo County District Attorney's office, confirmed the warrant'sauthenticity.

Members of the Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team took several computers, hard drives, digital cameras, cell phones and other gadgets, plus Chen's American Express bill and copies of his checks.

Either way, Gizmodo is getting some major pub out of this story.

Brilliant work apple  The story was over (they've re-hashed the subject a few times since then, but nothing else was coming), and now you've made the situation uglier, all while risking the alienation of a premiere technology blog that largely worships Apple.
