It would be nice if they had accessible batteries. It's crucial for me to have a backup battery when I'm in the field, say at a recruiting camp and need to be posting/browsing all day, or out shooting a sports tournament where I won't see any outlets for about 12+ hours. The $5 extra batteries (for my BB) are life-savers in those situations.

Get a couple [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Mophie-Juice-Pack-Rechargeable-Battery/dp/B001E42QBW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1246473634&sr=8-1"]Juice Packs[/ame] and put them in your camera bag. Hot swap all weekend long.

$5 batteries vs $100 battery packs...

If replaceable batteries aren't an option by the time it hits VZW, I'll probably get one of those. It's just a pretty high premium in comparison.

Morphie Juice Packs have $5 batteries in them too ...

It's the license fee to Apple for the dock connector and certified "Made for iPhone" logo that you're paying the other $95 for.

I wouldn't hold my breath for replaceable batteries. If the iPod has done without them for the last seven or eight years, the iPhones won't get them either.

The battery isn't actually that hard to replace, though you do need a micro wrench.

First semi major bitch with the IPhone. 3G does not support Skype. If you are at a hotspot and can connect on the net, no problem. But it is kinda stupid to not be able to skype thru the 3G network IMO.

You could always jailbreak it.

The no-Skype-on-3G is ATT's fault, not really an issue with the iPhone. TMobile (who has the iPhone in Germany) I read recently also blocks Skype.

Apple Rejects Official Google Voice iPhone App - Google - Gizmodo
TechCrunch suspects, probably correctly, that apps for Google Voice are being rejected at least in part through AT&T's influence, since Google Voice lets you send free text messages and delivers cut-rate international calls—on top of making phone numbers even more meaningless—making it scary to AT&T in way like Skype VoIP over 3G. Either way, it seems obvious the Google Voice service is being targeted for extinction, at least as a native app on the iPhone.
Google plans to take the same route it was forced to take with Latitude on the iPhone—web app land. It's an interesting switch for Google and Apple on the app front, actually. Google was noted for getting away with using private APIs in its Google Mobile app to make the voice search command work. Now Apple's rejected two of its major apps in a row, in a way validating Google's belief that web apps are the future anyway.
Whatever the reasons, it sucks, and as Jason Kincaid says, what's really troubling about this rejection is that it appears that "Apple is now actively stifling innovation."

potentially yes, but in the short term their protecting their business i guess. im assuming its cheaper voice over phone than gdata transmission? apple has substantially slowed down, imo since the new 3gs (or whatever the newest ones are) phones came out. im assuming its increased number of users and increased data transmissions.

Hallelujah! FCC Investigating Apple For Google Voice App Rejection - Google voice iphone - Gizmodo
YES. The FCC is looking into Apple's chickenshit shenanigans with Google Voice, asking whether AT&T was involved, why it was rejected and what's going on with this Google Voice thing. Updated with correspondence among FCC, Apple, AT&T and Google
Update: We now have access to the letters sent by the FCC to Apple, AT&T, and Google, trying to sort this whole mess out. The questions to Apple and AT&T are exactly what we ourselves want to know: What role, specifically, does AT&T play in Apple's app approval process? What are Apple's specific reasons for pulling the Google Voice app, among others? And why in the hell is Google Voice approved for BlackBerrys and not the iPhone? Check out the letters here at Techcrunch.
Apple Expects Google Voice App Developers To Pay Refunds Out of Pocket - Google voice iphone - Gizmodo
Now this is ridiculous. Not only did Apple pull all the unofficial Google Voice apps out of the App Store for an absurd reason, now they expect the developers of those apps to fund refunds out of their own pockets.

what is the app called that allows picture sharing without connecting between two phones? (is it free?)

i downloaded "bump" (the one that allows you to swap contact info (name, number, email, e biz card, etc) by merely tapping two phones together, really good idea, imo. def one that every iphone owner should have.
