AP reports Steve Nash for MVP

Olajuwon is Nigerian-born, dumbass...
That actually was his point, Mili. The article said that Nash was the first "non-American" to win the award. Olajuwon was born in Nigeria, so Tibor was trying to point out that the article was wrong.

But since he became a U.S. citizen in 1993, which I just posted but you probably didn't see yet, he can rightfully be called an American when he won the award in 1994.

So now I should let simple facts get in the way of my slamming tibor?

I would never attempt to put forward such a ridiculous guideline as that. Some people get what they deserve, even if they might not deserve it each and every time.

Uh, didn't they team make something like a 40-something game turnaround this season? The team sucked without Nash, and now simply by adding Nash to essentially the exact same team, they are one of the best teams in the league.
I guess you don't follow basketball, or you didn't read any of my points....they didn't just "add Nash." They added Quentin Richardson, Jimmy Jackson, an extra 30 games from an improved and developing Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson matured another year after being a young guy with promise, etc....This team would've win fifty games with just a decent point guard. They got a good point guard, so they won sixty. Doesn't make him MVP.

Nash was born in Canada and played college ball in America. I don't see how those circumstances are appreciably different than Akeem/Hakeem. Same could be said for Tim Duncan, in that the Virgin Islands doesn't really qualify as "native-born" American, though I guess it's closer.

FWIW, I think the three MVP candidates this year in terms of "most valuable" are Ray Allen, LeBron, and Iverson. None of them have top-notch teams, so they aren't really contenders. Like I said, it's a strange award.

in 1991, mark price got injured early in the season and was done for the year. the cavs floundered to a 33-49 mark. the next year, with him healthy (and i don't recall them adding anybody else of note) they went 57-25, tied for the 2nd best record in the league, and advanced to the conference finals where they took the mighty 67-15 bulls to six games.

i remember when price played, they would occasionally show a graphic that had the team's record with him and without him. the difference was astronomical.

did mark price ever receive any kind of mvp consideration? nope.

point guard is an important position. just like a football team needs a good QB to make everything go, so does a basketball team need a good point guard.

the suns could replace nash with a jason kidd or anybody else that plays the position correctly, and they would be just as good. but the heat can't just go out and get a replacement for shaq. there is nobody like him in the league, he is just too big and dominant.

the cavs experienced a tremendous turnaround last year when they aquired jeff mcinnis (who is nothing special). when he got injured, the team went into a terrible tailspin. does this mean that mcinnis is the league mvp? no, all it illustrates is that point guard is an important position.

How often does a white guy win the freakin MVP anymore?
Funny, that's the question myself and LeBatard hypothesize that the voters were asking themselves. Again, Nash is a worthy MVP. But there's definately the argument that in such a close race, the "white" factor put him over Shaq. I mean any number of voters could have been sitting there saying to themselves, "You know, I think Shaq's performance this year was amazing, but, 'How often does a white guy win the freakin MVP anymore?'"

Game 6 on the road for the MVP. 39 points, 12 assists, 9 rebounds. Game-tying 3-pointer with 6 seconds left.

Good thing he got the regular season MVP, since he sucked in this series. Only averaged 30 points, 12 assists, 6.5 rebounds.

...and the only other man to ever average 30-12-6 in a playoff series was Magic Johnson, who did it twice. Not bad company.
I was wondering about that, I'm surprised that Oscar Robertson never did that for a playoff series.

I loved his defense on Jason Terry. :roll1:

Nash was the MVP of the Dallas series, but he is going to make Tony Parker look like a Hall of Famer if he stays on him for this entire series. Nash had 6 TO's and Parker scored 29. Nash has some serious skills, but I think Amare is going to have to be the MVP of this series if Phoenix is going to advance.
