Anyone Have Their Tonsils Removed????

NUTS4theBUCKS28

"C" is for Suspension
ok, so i had my tonsils removed (along with my adenoids plus ear tubes) on tuesday, february 2nd. the first two days after surgery were really not that bad. but since then it has gotten gradually worse, especially at night. iv tried basically everything over the last six days now, and nothing really seems to ease the pain except for chewing gum and sonic slurpies.

does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do to help my recovery time? greeniess for anyone who can help out!

thanks

Ned, I had both my tonsils and adenoids taken out when I was 7. I remember eating lots of ice cream post op, but don't recall much pain. I also vomited blood, like 513 said. I still don't drink cherry kool-aid as a result. (Garcia effect (it's a real term, look it up))

Oh, and I can no longer smell very well. I don't remember ever being able to smell particularly well, but my mom said it was on account of this surgery, so - if you notice you can no longer smell like you used to, let me know. Not that I can do anything about it, just curious if it'll happen to you.

I would definitely go back to the doctor. I had mine out when I was 19 and it was two weeks of hell. I developed a secondary infection in my mouth afterwards and could not swallow. I was supposed to take meds every 2-4 hours, however, I could not get anything down because of the pain. They gave me another medicine to numb my mouth just to take the regular medications. After two weeks I was back to normal, but not without lots of pain beforehand.

Worst surgery of my life, and I've had 6-7...

I had them taken out in between my JR/SR year of high school. Never been in so much pain in my life. Esp. like you said at night. The only thing I found to work was to take 3-4 advil about an hour before you go to bed. Obviously you can't keep anything cool in your mouth or anything like that when trying to fall asleep since you'll risk the possibility of choking. That and I drank ungodly amounts of milkshakes and smoothies.
