Anyone Have Their Tonsils Removed????

Had them out when I was 8. Threw up once in a hallway at Children's Hospital Cbus. Don't remember the pain or how long it took to get better. All I know is I got sick all the time before I got them out and now I never get sick.

Yup...before I would get sick/get a cold about once a month. Until I got H1N1 this fall, I hadn't been sick since the surgery.

Had mine removed when I was 7. I don't remember a thing about it except Jell-o Pudding Pops. I'm sure it hurt some, but I don't remember it being bad at all. It looks like it's a whole different experience if you have them removed as an adult than as a child. Good luck, Ned.

I had mine taken out when I was 3. Basically, I was sick all the time, and that was the earliest age that the doctorb felt that I could deal with the surgery. I don't remember anything except being stuck with a needle, screaming, and waking up in a hospital bed. I can't remember any pain, I was only 3. The tubes never did fall out like they were supposed to. I ended up having them removed when I was 10 or 11. Apparently my ear canal didn't expand very much during those 7 or 8 years.
Weird - got mine out in 1999 after they basically exploded with infection. I ate bacon and eggs 4-5 hours later, same day. Good luck...
I hate you.

Ned, I had mine taken out at 20 courtesy of the US Army, at the same time they moved a bone in my nose to correct a deviated septum. Dont recall too much pain. Hid out in the barracks in San Antonio for about 4 days before the drill sargeants realized I wasnt still in the hospital and decided i either needed to go backt o hthe hospital or go home on leave... thats the only time i got sick... walking in that heat to the travel agency 4 days after the surgery i puked up lots of gatorade.

Had my big toenails turn black and fall off after a weeklong ski trip out west. Pretty gross stuff.

Back to the tonsils. Before I had them removed any time I had a sore throat it would turn to strep. I have not had strep in the nearly 20 years since I had them removed (knock on wood).

One thing people don't normally hear about with chemo is that it just as hard on the fast replicating cells that your nails grow from as it is the ones that produce hair (or more importantly the ones that cause cancer to grow & spread).

Onycholysis is not a pretty thing. :(
