Here's a curious chart:

I was skeptical about the "Obama doubled gas prices claim", since I remember that gas was over $4 when Dubya was still in the White House.

Notice gas dropping from the highest point on the chart ($4.10) to the LOWEST ($1.61) the week of the election in 2008?

That's speculator-driven pricing, and shows what is probably the real price of gas. Unfortunately, gasoline is fairly inelastic in demand, so large spreads can exist between production cost and market price.

Depends on where you fill up down here, and you always have to watch out for "cash pricing". Last night where I filled up it was $3.89. This morning on the way to work, I saw the range from $3.79 to $3.99.
