So I know that in the past the government would give some sort of a $$$ break for people who bought hybrid cars since they polluted the environment less but I heard through the grapevine that they might stop doing that and actually have hybrid drivers pay a $$$ penalty since they will be forking less towards the government's gas tax. Can anyone defend or refute this rumor I heard cause I'd like to know before I'm in the market to get a new car in a year or so.
sounds like something bush would do to put more money in his pocket. dumb bastard

Dow I'm not sure about that but I highly doubt that they would be able to penalize you for buying a hybrid. In fact I call this rumor BS. You're safe buying the hybrid.
I was thinking that but I wanted to see if anyone had heard of this or not...thanks bud

Yeah, right...Bush has been all about increasing taxes since he came into office. :roll1:

It's fine to criticize the Prez if you like, but at least do it in a way that makes sense based on his policies. The tax increase lovers are on the other side of the aisle.

I paid $2.69/gallon today. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but I have heard that by Labor Day, the price will be around $3.00/gallon in Ohio.... :pissed:
Speaking of tax lovers and high gas prices, consider this reason number 312 why we do NOT want to follow Europe any further down the road to socialism:

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc.

In a few Latin America and Middle-East nations, such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens, he said. All prices updated March, 2005.

I don't even know how to respond to how stupid this is. So I guess I will just use the standard stupid response.

:tibor:

Here I thought they paid so much more because they were all pussies, and nobody is afraid of them.

I, for one, don't really mind the increasing prices. I think (hope) the increases will lead to an increase in popularity for Hybridized cars and speed up the process for Hydrogen cars.

It's all good for Mama Nature.

I'm not saying that's what happened here, but I HATE when people point to gas prices in other countries and tell me I should be thankful. Yeah, I'm really thankful that it costs twice as much for me to drive to work as it did two years ago, yet I still get paid the same.

sorry if you took my post the wrong way, i should have saved it for somewhere else but i dont like the man and i believe part of the reason that we have such high oil prices is to help the companies he owns/owned, all i was trying to say. sorry it was "stupid" and if your going to ding me, at least say who did it, its not like i care jsut like knowing who thinks im a moron:tongue2:

Word has it that Gas prices have not peaked. $3.00 average Nationwide by end of month not impossible. $4 not out of the question by years end. Our current prices already exceed the peak assumed by DOE in their projections for 2005 by at least 15% - even after summer regulated fuel adjustment is figured out. This uptick began in 2001 and has not stopped trending up.
