Anybody else watch this "Idol" crap?

So I promised my wife I would watch an episode of the new "American Idol" with her, and I really can't believe this crap. I mean, these people aren't just bad...about 2/3 of them sound like a dog who just woke up to find his balls sewn to the carpet. I can't believe (but I can, actually) that more people vote on this asinine crap every week than vote for President. Ugh.

I wouldn't waste my time watching that crap or any of those "reality" shows that seem to have spawned from the Survivor series. It's overkill. I know there are many who do like them, I'm just not one of them. Personally, I'd rather watch a good movie or a Buckeye sports event.

I have to admit, I do watch these intial ones where people are trying out for the show. I have never seen a regular episode, but the tryouts are hysterical. Some are a bit much like last night there were two kids who seemed to be mildly retarded and were awful singers. The three stooges were really picking on the one kid who had no concept of what a terrible voice he had. I felt bad for him.

The ones I enjoy are the other people who just get pissed off and start arguing because they think they should have made the cut. There was some guy last night who admitted he sang on cruise ships and now trains people to do that. When Simon said he sounded like a cruise ship singer the guy went nuts. That is funny!

im with you. i watch the tryout episodes to see how stupid people are. some of these people know they are bad and are just trying to get on TV. but some of these people think they are good.

what happens is you go to the AI tryouts and sing in front of some nobody. if you are good enough or bad enough they put you through to the TV judges. if you are absolutely horrible then you will go straight to the TV set because thats what people want to see.

i like watching the ones who think they are the greatest singers ever and they are serious, but they are seriously awful too. once the real "show" starts i stay as far away as possible.

Those are funny. I really enjoyed the irony surrounding the remarks made about the (former) cruise ship singer. That was pretty good stuff.

The 2 dorks were pretty funny. The guy who thought he could sing like Brian McKnight though was sad. He just kept talking about how his family always told him that. He wasn't even close.

I really enjoy these initial episodes, because some of the scenes are really funny. I'll also watch 25-50% of the competition stuff, mostly towards the end.

It's one of the few primetime shows that my 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son can watch with us. My daughter likes to dance sometimes and my son then starts jumping all over the place. It's quite a contrast because my daughter is intently trying to practice moves that she learned at her dance/ballet class and then my son is running around and he looks like he's in a mosh pit.

I have a rule though, that noone in the house is allowed to vote.

My two favorite nutjobs this year have been the Cruise Ship guy and Mary who heard lots of voices in her head. It was great when Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray asked her what her voices were telling her in front of the judges.

Gene Simmons is going to be a guest judge next week. That should be good.

I thought the judges saw everyone. I had no idea there was someone else seeing the contestants. I wondered how they managed to get all those people through.

I don't watch it, but does anyone know when they will show the Cleveland tryouts? One of the dudes from the radio station I listen to in the morning tried out by singing "lets get physical" while pretending to workout. It sounded really funny on the radio so it might be worth watching. He got called back to tryout in front of the judges so there is a chance he'll make the show.

So what you're really trying to say is you promised your wife you would watch American Idol while the buckeye basketball game was on. I don't have a wife, but when I do get married, I can only hope she doesn't put me through that kind of torture.
