Any tips/information for heading to Michigan State?

I should be able to get on L. Erie quite a bit. The project I'm interviewing for is a walleye project on the offshore reefs and tributaries along western Lake Erie. Collaborating with Ohio DNR, USGS, Michigan State, and Ohio State folks. I've never caught a walleye before, but apparently they think I'm a good candidate to do the work. I'm very interested in getting into some pike fishing... I've heard muskie are 1,000 cast beasts. Growing up in Ohio, I only fished for smallies and sunfish along the banks of some ponds and small lakes.

I wasn't headed into the heart of this savage dream called Michigan to pull crappies out of a pond. We Buckeye fisherman were made of sterner stuff. Our hearts were set on much bigger game....walleye and lake pike as big as f*cking Caspian Sturgeon. Fish with true grit, and we had plenty of that. Sure, there'd be plenty of Sparty chicks to bang and throw away. As for the Wal-Mart Woverines.....well there was no use in telling the poor bastard about them now. He'd see them soon enough.

Holy shit you're making me laugh.. I want all the fish from Michigan in my boat. All of them. I've done well in Florida with the largemouth, redfish, snook, and seatrout fisheries. May try to venture out for some grouper, snapper, and maybe a tarpon this spring/summer. But if I head to Michigan, I'm going to try to hit em big.

MSU is very possibly the prettiest campus in the Big 10. Game days are fun beginning with the band parading along the Red Cedar to the stadium and the student body can drink with anyone but Aussies and Euro soccer fans. It's beautiful in summer, but summer becomes fall in mid August and doesn't come back until mid-June.

I'm not a fisherman, but I spent my summer between 7th and 8th grades cleaning cabins and keeping the minnow tank full for a friend of my granddad who lived just south of Sheboygan and had seven cabins he rented out. I went fishing everyday on the river and never spent more than an hour to get six to seven rock bass for dinner.

Sounds like a literate New Hampshire.

Ahh. So I might be giving up my 8 month summer for a 2 month summer. And people say I'm smart...

 This thread is surprisingly entertaining.

Happy scouting, Diego.
I know right? The nice part about MSU is it gets me the academic experience into a Big Ten school (great for future job prospects) and gets me closer to both of my sisters (Indiana and Columbus). I could camp and fish with them much more often then I get the chance to do from down here in Florida. Then I can maybe pick me up one of those native girls...

East Lansing puts you smack dab in the middle of the state for the most part with great access to lots of outdoor activities. Head over west towards GR and you will find great golf and some great beer. Head north and you will find great golf, fishing, hunting, etc. Head northwest and you will find much of the same.

Fall is absolutely great for golf in the NW troll portion of the state. Once you go over the bridge you can find yourself in many remote areas. PM me if you want additional info.
