I spent about 350 on my first guitar. An 83 Yahmaha acoustic. Still sounds kick ass, although I had a bone nut and bridge installed.

Just curious, are you looking into a classical or an acoustic? You strike me as more of a nylon string classical player.

Very nice. Someday I'll be getting a PRS too. I've never liked any of the colors my local Guitar Center has gotten from PRS. I like that color though...

Came extremely close to picking up one in that color w/ silver hardware maybe 3 years ago. Probably good that I didn't since I don't play anywhere near as much as I did, but maybe I would if I had that.

And should(could) I use steel strings on a folk guitar?

The difference is tone.

No. I would not put steel strings on a classical guitar.
