Announcers in the NCAA tournament

I think he's a little goofy, but I don't mind him. I just remembered this from a radio bit a while back. Everyone used Nantz's voice... pretty funny. :)
Darn well that's cool. I was just hoping to add another person to my list of people who don't like Jim Nantz. Just wondering but was the radio bit done by a local radio station in Columbus?

The only reason I don't think he's like Vitale is that he never starts slobbering over one team. Raftery is very neutral, and you can tell that he just loves college basketball(while the same is true for Vitale, you can also tell that he loves certain teams and dislikes other teams).

Can you still say that after Florida-Purdue yesterday? I couldn't believe some of the statements he made even after the replay showed the exact opposite.

Soooo close to worse than Vitale for me. And unfortunately it looks like Raftery's in San Antonio this weekend. :smash:

I like Raftery. The foul call that he was bitching about, he was 100% wrong on. I've also seen him defend his initial outrage of a call before. Even after there was evidence to the contrary. I'm pretty sure that the guy is just not a fan of being proven wrong, and not actually taking sides. Overall I like the guy as an announcer.

Man to Man!
I will take him over a number of color analysts especially all the Duke guys. The only Duke guy who I think is really honest is Jay Bilas. You can take the rest of the other ACC guys and put them with Steve Lavin and Rick Majerus.

A fan's notes: Gus, Kevin, more

The Gus Johnson Question has turned into one of the defining sports questions in life. Where you stand says more about you than you'd think, just like it's telling if you hated "Field of Dreams" or started rooting for Duke during the early '90s because you liked watching Christian Laettner and Bobby Hurley. If somebody tells me they don't like Gus, I'm not even sure how to react. They might as well tell me, "Yeah, sometimes I like to save dogs from the pound, then murder them with my bare hands."

I look at it this way: If March Madness was a cheeseburger, and everyone's office pools were the fries, then Gus would be like ranch dressing -- not a complete necessity, but a luxury that pushes everything else over the top. Does he go a little overboard? Absolutely. Does he veer into the high 90s on the Unintentional Comedy Scale at times? No question. Would he have been the greatest WWE announcer of all time? Undoubtedly. Does he make every event he covers more exciting? You betcha.

cont'd ...
