Andy Geiger- Retired Athletic Director (Merged all relevant threads)

and I'd also thank him for going after Matta...something tells me, that guy is gonna be special...

and on a side note, is there any possibility that maybe he has a feel that the investigation will be concluded around the spring, I've heard that was probably the earliest it would conclude, and so he's making sure he'll be around for that and then retire?

Do you enjoy the atmosphere around buckeye nation after 3 straight losses??
I know I sure as hell dont.

Archie for AD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brain fart on my part. I was thinking he meant a current three game losing streak.

I hate to see him go at this time. I would rather him weather the storm, but understand it is his decision. There is no way to avoid that the media and fans of other schools who have a hard-on for OSU will say this proves MoC right. Time will tell us whether MoC or AG was correct, but the damage to OSU's image will continue.

sorry....i shouldn't have posted that bit of material....my mistake.

i was just trying to verify that there is an axe to grind....in hindsight it was not my best decision....

my apologies...
Alan, you didn't do anything to warrant an apology. On the other hand that source of yours does for that uncalled for remark. No excuse for anyone to make a remark like that. Absolutely none.

"I suppose that we could also hope that ESPN will report OSU's clean bill of health with the zeal that they reported the Clarett/Troy Smith scandals :slappy:"

Yeah, that'll be following the dodgeball championships on ESPN 8, "The Octo"

They'll report a clean bill of health as follows:

"The NCAA found no basis to claims of lack of institutional control, or institutional involvement in wrongdoing by the Ohio State University. Obviously, hovever, Ohio State has done a marvellous job of covering everything up. Well, we always knew they were dirty, and the following proves it. We overturned a rock on the campus of tOSU, and do you know what we found??? DIRT! DIRT on the campus!! They're guilty! They Did IT! LOOK AT MEEEEE! I'm IMPORTANT!!! OSU IS DIRTY AND WE PROVED IT!!!!

In conclusion, the NCAA should be shut down, as they are incapable of seeing what is plain to everyone here in Bristol. "

The media can, and will spin ANYTHING related to this mess. Don't count on exoneration, regardless of what the NCAA says. How I hate the press (mess), sometimes. OK most times.

Sad news!

Geiger is a good man, and did the university well...

Best of luck to him and his family. He will more than likely be around town for a couple more years, then move to Washington (already owns property) once his youngest son graduates from U.A.

I don't watch ESPN anymore... I don't check their website either...

If they dug around any other top tier program they would find one hundred times more dirt... "F" ESPN... I hope gameday comes to Columbus next year... they will have to stay in the studio with dingleberries and dipsh*t, because the chanting and signs at the HomeDepot stage will not be suitable for airing.

Let me first say this, I love Geiger more than anybody but Alan's "source" is not the only one who thinks Geiger is arrogant. I've talked to people who've been around him who think the same thing.

The way I look at it is, you have to be a bit arrogant to have that job.

Andy Geiger, you will be missed and all alumni like myself owe you a great bit of gratitude and praise for your years of service.

OSU is a much better as you leave it than when you entered it.

Sounds a lot like "I think the fact that we haven't found anything proves that they had it."

end of june he is leaving and staying around as an advisor after that...

and i hate to say this.....but i am getting vibes that more shit is going to hit the fan soon in regards to football.....but no verification yet....i have several major media people trying to find out more for us....

at this point it is simply rumor.....
This quote is the one that worries me the most. I hope this doesn't mean a problem for JT. That would be devastating for the program. I would probably lose a lot of my passion if JT was gone.

It is disappointing to see Geiger go, but I have had the feeling that this was coming down the pike for some time now. I sincerely think that the Troy Smith debacle was the straw that broke the camels back, and accelerated his retirement. I cross my fingers that this is the only shake up in the program.

Something tells me that Smith will be getting a longer suspension than first imagined also.

From what I am hearing, Archie is next in line for the AD spot. This would make sense because his squeaky clean image, and legendary status in the college football world would bode well for our program.

Regardless, Geiger will sincerely be missed by the Buckeye faithful, he brought many great thing to the OSU athletic department.

I would also like to chime in and express my sadness to see Geiger retiring under these conditions. I used to think Geiger was arrogant, as some have charged, until I met him in the spring of 2002 when he came to speak in one of my Higher Education Administration classes. He was a very impressive...I was especially impressed by his thorough knowledge of multiple intelligence theory. I was also impressed by his ability to answer idiotic questions from some of my classmates with class and in a way that did not insult them even though they deserved it.

At the end of the class session, he invited us to call his office if we ever wanted information regarding the athletic programs at OSU. He was a real class act.
