An Open Note to Arlen Specter

obviously there's not enough work to go around in Washington these days.

Goodell to meet with Sen. Specter about Spygate

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., plans to call NFL commissioner Roger Goodell promptly to discuss the Spygate controversy and suggested Sunday that Senate hearings could result from his investigation.

On ESPN's "Outside The Lines", Specter told host Bob Ley that he will call Goodell on Monday morning, just hours after the Patriots and Giants play in Super Bowl XLII.

"It could go to hearings," Specter said. "This is a matter to be considered by the [Senate Judiciary] Committee. I don't want to make any broad assertions or elevate it beyond what I have a factual basis for doing, We're going to follow the facts and if warranted, there could be hearings."

Specter told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio that after hearing Goodell's depiction of why evidence provided by the Patriots was destroyed, he wanted more answers.

Good old Arlen must have lost money he bet on the Rams in the Super Bowl. I do think it is kind of telling though that Specter won't come out and say that the reason the commision is interested in this is because of legal sports gambling. They are in bed with the devil but they won't admit it.

Wish the thread title had stayed as writ - would have been perfect to spoof with:

"Be Careful With That Axe Arlene"

Anyway I posted this when "Arlene" first made mention of his dissatisfaction with Goodell's response in the Pats/Jets thread.

One thing you cannot put past a US Senator - they know how to stir the pot - even when avowedly disinterested in Football - or the Super Bowl for that matter.
who can blame a football fan and politician like Specter for a little bit of grandstanding as the Super Bowl approches? I mean, he is an avid fan, right?
In the meantime, Specter said he might miss Sunday's big game. "I may play squash while it's on," Specter said.
Wonder if he'll secretly tape the game - you know, just so he can see the commercials and half-time show?

I honestly don't believe the average football fan gives a rat rear end when Specter makes a spectacle of himself like this - on Super Bowl Sunday.
