Allen Iverson (practice?)

Iverson is one of the top five players in the league. His problem has been that he played on the same court as guys like Kevin Ollie, Eric Snow, and Larry Hughes... oh wait, that's sounds like another star in the league who is currently thriving.

First I wouldnt call Anthony a ballhog.

Carmelo has averaged 18.5 FG attempts per game in his career...and that number has gone up the last two years (19.7 last year and 24.0 so far this year). Maybe you're willing to give 'Melo the benefit of the doubt, but let's just say that I wouldn't be surprised if he and Iverson butt heads in the very near future.

Number of shots doesnt necessairly tell the whole story. A scorer might be forced or looked upon to do more shooting with less scorers around him. I would clearly say that Iverson has been about the only player that is a consistent scorer in Philly, hence the reason for all his shots and Melo has slowly become the man in Denver.

The question will be how well they coexist, but I know that if I was a scorer, but had someone next to me that it would open up more chances for me to take more uncontested shots and open easier lanes to the hole. Also playing Iverson at the pg should allow him to create for Melo, and defenses can't help off of Melo like they could against guys for Philly.

I was reading a few articles on the trade, and it made me realize how well Iverson and Carmelo could fit in together. Iverson, being the PG, will be the guy to start each play and look to create shots and look to get his teammates involved. Carmelo is more of a finisher, and having defensive pressure put on Iverson would certainly give him more room to get an open shot or to get in position to get a favorable match up down low. Iverson would also fit in great in Denver's fast-break style offense, and having the rest of the team set up to rebound his and Carmelo's shots obviously works greatly to their advantage. The main reason why they will work together is because they play at different areas of the court, instead of having two great guards, or two great big men (F/C). Basically, Iverson is the QB while Carmelo is the WR.

Exactly! How can the two top scorers in the league together, at different positions not fit in together. The denver run the floor type of play is perfect for Iverson and it seemed to have been working for Carmelo

It'll be peaches and cream the first month...

but then it will become blatantly obvious.. there is only ONE basketball...
and these two won't be able to play nice in the same sandbox...
passing will be something the rest of the team does.. not the two stars...

and there goes any hope of titles...

Melo could learn to pass.. if it was reciprocated... (ie if he was with LeBron) but after the fake initial love fest... the ball will not come back to him...

I think it might actually work for the remainder of the regular season. But once they get in the playoffs and realize that this move still wasn't good enough to get them past Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix, and possibly even the Clips (if they make a good trade) in the Western Conference, that's when everything will turn sour.

Since when has Iverson ever looked to get his teammates involved? Why would he start now?

The problem is that 'Melo doesn't think he's a finisher -- he thinks he's a shooter, a slasher, etc.

Trust me, in a month or two at least one of them (or both) will be complaining about the other and a lack of shots. It actually might be a little longer than that, since they won't even be playing together for about a month due to 'Melo's suspension for his little sucker-punch and run like a little girl stunt the other night. Nevertheless, these guys have a history of selfish behavior, and I doubt it will stop now.

I liked how Rex Chapman (VP, player personnel) said in the press conference (paraphrasing):

"We've got the top 2 scorers in the league, how often has that happened?"

As if they're both going to be able to keep averaging 30 points playing on the same team. I've never been a fan of either guy, so I won't mind seeing the shitstorm when they start resenting each other.
