He did wait until the winter portal closed for entry. If an Alabama player is not already in the portal, they cannot enter until spring.
Unless they changed the rule again, a player can transfer if their head coach leaves at any time.

Yeah, they get a 30 day window:

Whenever there's a head-coaching change — a firing, retirement, or if a head coach leaves for another job — players at that school get a 30-day window to freely enter the transfer portal.

I always assumed when Satan retired, Dabo would be the obvious heir apparent. Has the shine gone down so far that he's not even one of the top names now?

100%......It's crazy what happens when you openly talk about players not wanting to be paid and how terrible the transfer portal is for kids.

Goes a very long way with HS kids in 2024.

Not gonna lie, this is one of the bigger reasons I've wanted Gene gone for a while now.....whatever anyone thinks of NIL and transfer rules, openly castigating it does nothing but garner negative "ill-will" from the kids you're trying to recruit to the university......let someone else be the voice of reason, IMO.

When Saban finally told the team, it left the room stunned. The team was told that Alabama hoped to have its next head coach in place in the next 72 hours, according to sources.

Just sayin': Alabama has already decided who they want and are close to finalizing the deal......
