Putting your future in the hands of a 86yo man. Bold move. Though I've seen it work out for countless women of the same age

Acting like he flipped the day of is nonsense. He's been checked out for months. But if you’re a 5 star who can go anywhere and you flip the day of?
That’s my point. Then just get out 2 months ago… now id imagine OSU knew it to a point but still.Acting like he flipped the day of is nonsense. He's been checked out for months.
If Walton feels screwed over, he's a fool. That’s my point. Then just get out 2 months ago… now id imagine OSU knew it to a point but still.
How these kids can know they’re going somewhere else and then just screw over the coach they’ve been committed to for almost a year is beyond me.
I actually 1000% agree. We wear Nike and buy their stuff. That money in part goes to Phil Knight who then supports OU.There are other shoe companies who would love to have Ohio State signed with them. Nike has always paid us off so as to make it look fair but now that UO is in the B1G and gaining in prestige and threat level, Nike is more of a threat than a benefit in My opinion.
Problem is, Nike is the leading athletic apparel brand in the world, and kids love being able to wear the swoosh. Ask Maryland how wearing Under Armor is helping them. I know it sucks, but what you wear matters to athletes. I'm sure there would be a big hit to recruiting if OSU tried to used Saucony or New Balance for exampleI actually 1000% agree. Why aren’t more teams going to Nike and telling them “either stop or we are going to wear under armor etc etc”
We are literally directly funding our competition not just nationally but now within our own conference.
I've posted it before. The culture of athletic fundraising has always consciously focused on thousands of mid level Buckeye Club memberships rather than large donors. It doesn't mean we've never had them, but it's not the foundation of athletic fundraising at Ohio State. It goes all the way back to Woody who didn't want a Texas type of star chamber where the big cigars sit around and run his program. Remember his famous quote about big boosters: "they'll buy you the Cadillac one year and the tank of gas to get out of town the next."It's more than Knight. OU knows where their bread is buttered. @ORD_Buckeye would probably chime in here with how much donors are throwing into endowments vs NIL/athletics and the prestige it creates.
Phil Knight would throw a check at him to get him to go to Oregon. It’s really no different than any other booster buying a recruit. It’s just more legal when it’s disguised as NIL.
More likely, Nike would design a special shoe for a recruit - Air Lendak, something like that - and give him a percent of the profits. That would be more in the spirit of NIL, bigger ego boost for the recruit, better for brand building, plus a potential long-term revenue stream.
