Affliction: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia

When Pride stopped, UFC and Pride had done a good job of keeping all the talent. Dana's biggest mistake (I know that deserves it's own thread) was not spending the money to get all the Pride fighters. He stalled and now there's competition. All that being said, why would Dana want to cross-promote? Why couldn't Fedor just be a UFC fighter? Also bring his brother, he's an interesting fighter to watch.

The money isn't there for Fedor. That's really what it comes down to, believe it or not, Dana White would love to have Fedor in the UFC, and that was obvious last night when he got a quick free card together for Anderson Silva.

As for the talent Fedor fights, look, there isn't a lot of explosive talent in the MMA heavyweights, Fedor is unreal with his speed, he fights like he's a 205 speed wise but hits like he's a 250.

I agree with you on cross promoting, the simple fact is the UFC has marked itself very well, with the ultimate figher on Spike, fight night, and all the other replays of the fights, you get your fill of the action without really having to pay out.

Aside from Fedor last night, that card really didn't inspire me. I watched the whole thing after the fact and really, the UFC card overall had more action, Fedor made the night. Everyone knew coming in that Sylvia was washed up, his time had passed, but that doesn't take anything away from what Fedor is, just that there's not a whole lot of talent you can put against a guy like that.

When will people just let it go and admit Fedor is the truth. Who do you want him to fight? He tried to fight Randy and couldn't, and the only other person left is Barnett.

Exactly...What's he gotta do make jesus christ tapout? Yea,he sure better watch out, because if fedor was in his prime he would have whipped a former ufc heavyweight champions ass in three seconds..That 38 second bullshit is just not acceptable..

If a guy loses a fight, that doesn't make him a total piece of shit. TS has always been a boring fighter, but a tough one at that. I don't know of a lot of people(mma fans) that just would walk up and whip his ass..So it's hard for me to talk shit like that it's just not an average joe's place considering the sofa is a lot easier to get around, then the octagon.

I thought the ufc card sucked pretty badly. Of course silva was outstanding, but overall it was about as boring as the norm...I would be curious to see if dana ever had the balls to put on a fight at the same time if fedor ever did fight couture. Dana White is a cocksucker who won't pay the same people he makes his life off of. Randy Couture wouldn't just leave it all behind if he wasn't. Dana White's obvious attempts at making every single dollar off of anything he can do is the main reason I don't like him...Don't get me wrong promoting is just that, but when you aren't taking proper care of the people who are making the shit happen, then you are no different then any cocksucker boss..It would be a beautiful day,if his entire monopoly on being the lead dog is dismantled by his own attitude.

No, what makes him a total piece of shit is when he got whooped by a forty-three year old, he whined like a bitch about being hurt. Pussy.

And just because I'm not a better running back than Bike Hart doesn't mean he isn't a whiny bitch either.

I didn't see people saying "hell, even i could kick Tim Sylvia's ass" or anything like that, just that he's passed his prime. And can you really argue that? The guys been done for a while, he took that fight last night for a quick pay out to be a punching bag and knew what he was getting into. Odds are he made more for that than he did for his UFC fights so more power to him.

I go two ways on this, I think that there's a real slippery slope if you start tossing out huge purses, Dana White watched what happened to Boxing, where people are taking fights just to get a big payout, win or lose, and fighting well beyond their prime. It's not like these guys are making squat cash, a decent fighter in the UFC makes a lot of money, granted they aren't getting 20 million dollar purses to go get beat up like a championship boxer, but they also aren't begging for cash.

I found the UFC card great for a free card, Silva was awsome, I was disapointed with the Vera fight, I thought that Markham kid showed a lot of power, the eyepoke bummed me out, but overall, I thought it was a decent card. Hell, most of the time you pay you get a card of about the same quality, 2-3 great fights and a lot of hugging on the ground.

Can you honestly say that if Fedor wasn't on that card last night anyone would have paid for it?

Dana not signing Fedor was not Dana's fault, Big John McCarthy confirmed that Dana offered Fedor millions of dollars per fight. The road blocks were Fedors management, they wanted way to much including the UFC having several events in Russia a year, signing a stable of Russian fighters from Fedors team, and picking and choosing opponents.

While I agree Fedor is the best heavyweight, hes not even close to being the best P4P. The heavyweight division is the worst division there is, ruling over a baron wasteland isn't anywhere near as impressive as what Silva, Faber, and GSP are doing.

To me P4P means if fighters were the same size who would win and personally if Silva, Gsp, and Faber were the same size as Fedor I think they would beat him.

I dont think so.... You may be swept up by the percieved atheticism of the small guys. Fedor is like a catfish after they get fileted they still squirm... Those guys you mentioned would have died if Kevin droped them on their head like that.

I'm still waiting for him to just fall over someday from that. That's the fastest I've gone from really sure one person won to lost.

Its not perceived athleticism, its the facts. When Fedor fights the level of competition the other guys have than maybe he can make the claim as number 1 P4P fighter.

Wow. It's funny how people who don't fight don't think Fedor is the best, but MMA figthers do.

By your logic Rickson Gracie is a better fighter than Fedor, seeing as how he has reputation among fighters and fans as the most technical and unbeatable fighter for almost two decades now.

Yeah, in his prime perhaps. He's about to be 50. My logic had to do with people still fighting.

"Pound for pound" is something that the lower weight divisions made up so they can feel better about themselves. The top heavyweight 9 times out of 10 would destroy anyone from a lower weight class. If not, why do they have divisions at all? BTW Fedor has chunks of guys like GSP in his morning stool.
