Peter O'Toole, one of the greatest film actors of all time, died on December 14 at the age of 81. O'Toole is best-known for his starring (and Oscar nominated) roles in classic films Lawrence of Arabia, Becket, and The Lion in Winter. If you are into movies, you should see all three of the above, as well as the Stunt Man, where O'Toole delivers one of his best performances as a crazed movie director.

EDIT for BUCKYLE: O'Toole also starred in King Ralph.

One of my favorites.

I would add The Ruling Class to the list of must sees if you like quirky.

In the, "wow, that guy was still alive" category...

Oddly also in both Caligula as well as The Last Emperor (I always liked his role in that)

While I loved his role in King Ralph, he was better in the Steve Guttenberg masterpiece, "High Spirits".

Rip

Btw, I've actually seen The Lion in Winter, iirc. Is that the one with the shaky chick and young Hannibal Lecter?

Yes, the shaky chick is Katherine Hepburn, who won an Oscar for her role in that movie (she played Eleanor of Aquitaine, the wife of Henry Plantagenet, O'Toole's character). Anthony Hopkins (the young Hannibal Lecter) played Richard the Lionheart, and Timothy Dalton (a James Bond) played the King of France; it was the movie debut for both actors.

Richard the Lionheart...there was a King Richard in the Cartoon Robin Hood. King Richard was portrayed as an actual lion. Hmmm.

RIP

Great actor, great legacy.

On a less serious side, though. Would his name have been the coolest EVER in pornography? "Peter" O'"Toole":hoke: The Mega-Tool thinks not!

Back to serious. Condolences to Peter's family and loved ones. Godspeed to them all.

Peace
