Bernie Fine's wife alleged to have had sex with players

The latest twist in the Bernie Fine story is that now the wife of the former Syracuse assistant coach is accused in court papers of having sex with many of the school's basketball players, over many years.

The New York Daily News reports the allegation is part of an affidavit filed by Robert Davis, one of the former Syracuse ball boys who has accused Bernie Fine of molesting him as a child.

In it, Davis says he overheard Laurie Fine and the wife of another coach talking about performing oral sex on players, including discussion of the "specific size and physical attributes" of their genitals.

"It is not only Fine's relationship with me and other boys that would have tipped Boeheim off. For years, Bernie Fine's wife Laurie Fine had sexual relationships with basketball team players. Players used to talk openly about it as a known fact."

The affidavit also details an alleged tryst that Laurie Fine had in 1993 at the off-campus home of a player.

There was a development in Fine's case on Jan. 20th that received no posts.

The guy from Maine (Zach Tomaselli, who accused Fine of molesting him after the news broke about the 2 stepbrothers who were 'Cuse ballboys), dropped his lawsuit because he doctored emails and lied to reporters. He still claims he was abused, but doesn't think he can proceed with his case.

It's interesting, because it was that guy's accusations that allowed the police to search Fine's home, etc. They couldn't do that after Davis and his stepbrother made their accusations due to the statute of limitations.

Bernie Fine accuser recants saying it was all a game

Zach Tomaselli, who accused Bernie Fine of sexual abuse now says he has been lying for months. In a series of email exchanges, Tomaselli writes: "It has become a burden of a lie and I am sick of it. Bobby Davis told me what to tell detectives and it pretty much took off from there. The evidence that supports me is just pure luck, not real evidence. I made the ENTIRE thing up. I have never met Bernie in my life."


On the telephone Tomaselli told CNYCentral's Matt Mulcahy, "It was a game to me. It was fun trying to make this story come alive. I was told by Bobby Davis what kind of porn Bernie likes. So I would add we were watching lesbian porn and going on and on. But, it didn't pan out because of my school records, there was a hole I didn't fill."


Tomaselli went on to write, "I NEVER met Bernie fine or went to an autograph session. I sat in the nosebleeds at the Pitt game at the dome in 03 but that is it. I lied." As for why he misled police, prosecutors, reporters and the general public for so long, Tomaselli wrote, "I don't have feelings most of the time. I just hate people without caring." Tomaselli said his lie was motivated by a deep dislike for the Syracuse Orange because they beat his favorite Kansas Jayhawks in the 2003 championship game.


Matt Mulcahy asked Tomaselli, "Do you have an apology to offer Bernie Fine and his friends?" Zach Tomaselli said, "Yes. Is it heartfelt. Probably Not. I don't have feelings. I just don't.." Mulcahy said, "You're not sorry for what you've done?" Zach said, " No." Tomaselli did acknowledge he is sorry for dragging down Hall of Fame basketball coach Jim Boeheim who is being sued for defamation by Bobby Davis and his step brother Michael Lang.


Tomaselli reports to a prison in Maine next Wednesday to begin serving a three year term for sexually abusing a teen at a summer camp. When asked if the true reason he made up the story about Bernie Fine was to receive leniency in his abuse case in Maine Tomaselli said, " I can't talk about my case, but you can guess the answer."

Well, please bear in mind that there is also that audiotape of Fine's wife discussing everything she knew about Bernie's "preferences". There's no evidence yet that that was in any way fabricated.

Anyone buying the "I made it all up" line now is naive as hell. The only real questions are how much $$$ did he get to recant, and who gave it to him.

In a tape-recorded 2002 telephone conversation, the wife of Syracuse associate head coach Bernie Fine admitted she had concerns that her husband had sexually molested a team ball boy in their home, but said she felt powerless to stop the alleged abuse.

Bobby Davis, who has publicly accused Bernie Fine of years of molestation that Davis said started when he was in the seventh grade, legally recorded his Oct. 8, 2002, phone call to Laurie Fine.

Average age of students starting 7th grade: twelve.

Anything to get me out of the room. And I knew. I told you when I was walking down the stairs at night, I'd say to myself, Guaranteed he's not in there. When I'd look in, his papers would be spread out all over and he'd be gone. Right down the basement, door closed.
Bobby: He did that every night.

I don't think Bernie being "gay" is the issue here. That was not the "preference" I was referring to.

C'mon everybody, let's pay attention and keep things in perspective.

There have been 3 people that publicly accused Fine of molesting them when they were boys.

Bobby Davis was the former ball-boy that lived at Fine's house, and had the damning taped phone conversation that indicated that he had an affair with Fine's wife, and that she knew that for her husband, it was "all about the dick".

Davis's step-brother Mike Lang was the second accuser.

Tomaselli was the third accuser, and his account was in question earlier. He had brought a lawsuit against Fine, but dropped it in January after he admitted doctoring emails and lying to reporters. He's the only guy that has recanted his account.

However, it was Tomaselli's accusation that allowed the Syracuse police to search Fine's home, since the statute of limitations was up for the allegations raised by Davis and Lang. I have to believe that Fine's defense lawyers are now confident in being able to get the contents of that search disallowed from future legal proceedings against Fine.

I don't believe BPers jumped to conclusions about Fine. The audiotaped phone conversation with Fine's wife clinched it for me. And it was right after that tape was released that Fine was canned by Syracuse.

Tomaselli's accusations were called into question by his own father shortly after they were first made public, and he dropped his own lawsuit after being caught altering emails and telling lies. His recanting doesn't make much difference in my opinion of whether Bernie Fine was a child molester, but it may make it very difficult for any legal action to be taken against him.
