ABC Switch Discussion (Merged)

Response from ABC affiliate re: the switch from OSU

Looks like I wasn't the only one who complained to them.

First off, we are sorry for the switch.

But you must know ABC is the one who switched games - not WYTV. We had NO control over what game we showed. If we could have put the game back on, we would have. ABC must not have known Youngstown is Ohio State territory. (Why in the world they wouldn't know that is beyond me.)

ABC switched from the Buckeyes when the game went to 27-0, thinking people would want to watch a closer game - Oklahoma was losing. They were very, very wrong. And they will hear about it from us come Tuesday.

Again, ABC is the one who switched away from the Buckeyes. Not us. We know we live in Ohio, and we are Ohio State fans too. We were just as dissappointed when the game was switched.

Again, we are sorry for the mix up.

The notion that ABC actually thought people in Youngstown OHIO would be so intrigued by a potential "upset" that they would want to leave their Buckeyes is just flat out stupid.

Switching other states, I can understand. But switching any part of Ohio from Ohio State...c'mon. :roll2:

yeah theres nothing like paying for gameday package and having them black out my game because its "being regionally telecasted". I mean would it really hurt just to let the game show on Gameday also? just incase this would happen? Today I used the "fuck" word the most I ever had in my life.

Here in New York City they lifted the Game Plan blackout toward the end of the third quarter. After ABC switched I went to Game Plan 2 and was so pissed I just watched the black screen for about 10 minutes, then all of a sudden it was on! It's one thing to switch the game but to also black out Game Plan is just plain cruel... a ton of people must have complained.

Interesting. ND is up 35-13 early in the 3rd, while a big12 team is in the midst of getting upset. Does ABC switch over to the aTm - Clemson game?

I'd rather watch that right now than Pitt playing like shit.

it would make sense to do so, maybe they'll wait till the beginning of the 4th quarter, pitt is playing horrible now, i feel bad for wannsted, he couldnt beat him in the pros and he cant beat him in college either.

First of all, I think that its not too crazy to switch over to a game where a top 10 team is being upset over a game where Ohio State is just about to send in the back ups (we only missed Ginn's TD thats it).

I think that it sounds a little whiny to just want to sit there and watch Ohio State dwindle out a game after its over while there are other quality games out there that all-around football fans would want to watch.

I do have one complaint though, it should have been kept on ESPN Gameday. I just bought the package and to pay all that money for it i should watch whatever damn game i want to. But as far as the general ABC showing i mean it would be a waste of primetime college football time watching our backups get scored on rather than watch a big upset that also HELPS Ohio States position in the rankings.

agreed. It's funny to hear fans whining about a game that's already been decided. Get a grip...or a life.

Bullshit. It's the first fucking week of the season. OU's #7 ranking means squat at this point, and "all-around football fans" know that being ranked in the Top Ten in August means nothing. Had this been November, you might have had a point.

I remember the media going nuts over UCLA's "upset" of #3 Alabama in the late 90's, in September. Alabama finished 3-8, meaning that "upset" was nothing.

There's no excuse for switching the home market to a potential "upset" on September 3rd, and it isn't "whiny" to expect otherwise.

What pisses me off is that GamePlan chose not to show the game on channel 776 (which was the one reserved for the OSU-MU game) due to the fact that it was broadcast here, yet once ABC decided to switch to the TCU-OU game, they thought it would be OK to start showing our game on 776 (after an obviously corporate delay). What the fuck?! Just show the fucking game from the git-go...they just don't want to pay for the satellite bandwidth. Cheap fuckers...
