Highly-coveted defensive end Aaron Lynch names a leader
Aaron Lynch (Cape Coral, Fla./Island Coast) told ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com, "Notre Dame is my leader. I feel like I'm a priority for them. That's how I feel."
In a 7-on-7 situation defensive ends are not used, so for one to have an impact he has switch positions. This was the case for edge-rusher Aaron Lynch (Cape Coral, Fla./Island Coast), who played tight end. While he didn't have as much of an impact as a pass-catcher at this event, the 6-foot-6, 247-pounder is still a very coveted prospect.
Lynch's competitive fire, size and relentless pass-rushing style have earned him offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Miami, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame and North Carolina, among others. However, one program is standing out for the fast-rising 2011 prospect.
"Notre Dame is definitely out in front right now," said Lynch, who grew up a Miami fan. "I have developed a bond with Notre Dame [running backs] coach [Tony] Alford. I call him probably every other day. I think in April I'm going up to Notre Dame. Tennessee and everybody is out there still, but Notre Dame is standing out the most."
Getting the intense, confident defender on campus this spring and summer will be key, because Lynch is likely to make his decision at the beginning of the 2010 season.

About Lynch
Clad in their colorful polo shirts, college football assistants have descended on northwest Cape Coral in a parade of rental cars this spring, looking for Aaron Lynch.- Height: 6-foot-6
- Weight: 255 pounds
- Position: Defensive end
- Offers: Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, South Carolina, USF, Tennessee, Texas Tech, West Virginia
- 2009 Stats: Lynch had 52 tackles (35 solo) and a team-leading 16 sacks for the Gators.
Eventually, they find him. But it hasn't been easy.
"It's the same thing every time - 'Where are you guys?'," said Island Coast football coach Joe Bowen. "They call the office and I have to talk them in."
While the location of the third-year high school may be a bit confusing, there are no such doubts about Lynch.
The 6-foot-6, 255-pound defensive end is this year's most coveted local prospect, an appealing blend of size, strength and speed that's caught the eye of nearly every top college program.
National champion Alabama, Miami, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame are among the 20 schools that have already extended scholarship offers, according to rivals.com and scout.com.
"Man, this kid is impressive physically," said Barton Simmons, a recruiting analyst for rivals.com. "He's a little raw at defensive end, but he's able to just use brute strength and innate athleticism to bully people on the high school level.
"I may be in the minority but I actually think that Lynch is a future first-round draft pick at offensive tackle. If he were open to playing that position he could make millions because he's nasty, athletic and has a perfect frame for it."
