you realize its on the register of national historic places/sites

they had no choice basically...

Lots of places on the Historic register go under everyday. Britain we ain't. The renovation of the stadium was necessary and we ended up with a far better product in the end (and one that preserved the visual sense of the old, especially the Horseshoe, which, now that they've moved the flagpole to the closed end, looks like a perfect ringer).

That being said, the seating that was added was minimal and did next to nothing to improve the cramped conditions where I tend to sit, did not add seats for Joe Bagodonuts, did not at least improve or correct the sight lines with regard to B deck columns (In fact it worsened some of them).

In short, the entire project was for the benefit of a handfull of big spenders, Huntington Bank Inc and probably the Wolfe family. It certainly wasn't done with the football fan in mind.

As I look at the UM project it seems to me to be much the same.

Nothing sounds better than the silence of 109,901 disappointed fans.

Judging by the stands during the last Game there, you could probably change that to about 60,000 disappointed fans...the rest were wearing scarlet and were pretty damned happy.

After renovations and lawsuits regarding disablilty seating, the stadium up north will have a capacity of 109,901. They always have end the official capacity with a '1' for an unspecified seat which was long ago reserved for Fritz Crisler by Fielding Yost.

Their record attendance was 112,118 for The Game in '03.

After renovations, Big House again biggest house

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- The University of Michigan has figured out just how many fans it can seat in the new-look Big House. The school announced Wednesday the capacity of Michigan Stadium will be 109,901 this season, making it the country's largest football stadium.

A $226 million renovation will be completed later this summer, ending a three-year project.

The Wolverines' opener is Sept. 4 at home against Connecticut.

Board approves permanent lights at Michigan's Big House

The school has been using temporary lights at football games that ended after dusk. The new lights are expected to be in place before the Wolverines play the Spartans on Dec. 11 in what is being billed as the "Big Chill at the Big House."

Last year, school officials proudly showed off a $226 million renovation that added luxury suites and club seats. The work boosted the number of seats and this season a football attendance record of 113,090 was set in the game against Connecticut.

Looks like the first use will be for the hockey game in December.

They are scheduled to play ND at night on Sept 10, 2011.
