#8 tOSU 72, #9 Siena 74 (Final, 2OT)

Per ESPNews. USBet set odds on the team most likely to be involved in a brawl. Siena is the favorite at 2-1.

Those odds are ridiculous with 64 teams left. Why they picked Siena, I have no idea.

Glad to still have some quality outsiders around, that's what makes these games more enjoyable. One of the best parts about BP is the outsiders (methomps - USC fan - moderator here, Nutriatch - LSU, Gatorubet - Gator miscreant, Texas fans, etc) that stick around after the game for conversation, especially those that get involved outside of their niche.

I'm not sure if BigWoof should be insulted to not be included as a quality outside-poster or honored to not be lumped in with those degenerates. :tongue2:

as a siena fan who went to just about every game this year and watched as many as possible on tv i can assure you i have no idea why we are the favorite there...however fran being the 2nd most likely for a T is another story

The "tOSU -3.5" in the thread title means Ohio State, not Siena, is favored by 3.5 points...

Nice little story about their coach...against niagara there was a clock malfunction that eventually harmed Siena. Mr. Awesome-coach walked up to the scorers table swearing up a storm and eventually throws a water bottle at the guy running the clock. Classy stuff.

Three-pointers and a cloud of dust: Buckeyes need to bring gridiron attitude to hardwood

by Doug Lesmerises / Plain Dealer Reporter Thursday March 19, 2009, 2:33 AM

Charlie Neibergall / Associated PressBetter screens set by Buckeyes players like Dallas Lauderdale, right, are helping teammate Jon Diebler, left, get free for clear looks at the basket on 3-pointers.
COLUMBUS -- The basketball Buckeyes need to take a little football attitude with them to Dayton.
Siena is expected to use a variety of zones, a man-to-man defense and a three-quarter-court trap against Ohio State in their first-round NCAA Tournament game Friday night. But if Ohio State's big men play like offensive linemen and Evan Turner hits the lane like a running back hitting the hole, it might not matter what defense Siena tries.
Blocking like
a left tackle Jon Diebler isn't the lineman in this analogy. He's the guy getting free off the block.
After going 0-for-3 on 3-pointers against Wisconsin on Feb. 14 under constant harassment, Diebler has made 48 percent of his 3-pointers in the past nine games (36-of-75). Running from one corner of the court to the other, sliding along the baseline and curling up to the 3-point line, Diebler has seemed to have an extra half-step on his trailing defenders, giving him a better look at the rim when he catches a pass and turns to shoot.
That's because the linemen -- OSU big men B.J. Mullens, Kyle Madsen and especially Dallas Lauderdale -- have been laying down better screens to block defenders and give Diebler some breathing room.
"Screening is another art of the game that's lost," Lauderdale said Wednesday in Columbus before the Buckeyes hopped a bus for Dayton. "A lot of people don't like to screen. But there's a huge difference."
Michigan State's Travis Walton, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, noticed it in Ohio State's upset win over the Spartans in the Big Ten Tournament, listing Lauderdale's screens near the top of a list of reasons for the Buckeyes' win. Early in the season, Lauderdale seemed to be getting called for a foul on nearly every other screen he set.
"He's getting there quicker and he's getting set quicker and not leaning or lunging," OSU coach Thad Matta said.

Buckeyes might fare well if Siena gets in a zone

by Doug Lesmerises / Plain Dealer Reporter Thursday March 19, 2009, 2:23 AM

COLUMBUS -- One of the defenses Siena is expected to throw at Ohio State on Friday night, when the No. 8 seed Buckeyes meet the No. 9 seed Saints in a first-round NCAA Tournament game in the Midwest Regional, should be familiar to Ohio State.

Terry Gilliam / Associated PressWith Siena expected to pressure the Buckeyes' ballhandlers on Friday, look for P.J. Hill, above, to get more playing time.

"Ironically, that's what we see every day in our practice," OSU coach Thad Matta said of the 3-2 zone both the Buckeyes and Saints practice. Siena uses other zones, as well as a three-quarter trap, and plays nearly as much man-to-man as anything else. But expect the Saints to put pressure on the OSU ballhandlers. With Jeremie Simmons proving again in the Big Ten Tournament title game against Purdue that he's not a point guard who's comfortable dribbling under pressure, P.J. Hill's minutes could increase, and his ability to get the ball up the court could be as important as any part of the OSU offense. The Buckeyes can't afford to make leading scorer Evan Turner serve as the primary ballhandler the entire game.

"Handling the ball and handling them changing their defense is going to be a key to the game and key to slowing them down," Hill said, "because they feed off turnovers."
Siena's turnover margin ranked among the top 15 teams in the country this season. The Saints committed 431 turnovers while forcing opponents into 555.
Ohio State committed 419 turnovers this season but forced opponents into only 421.
